The Socialist Rule of Law with Chinese Characteristics and Human Rights Protection

Law is the fundamental method of governance and the rule of law symbolizes modern civilization. The socialist rule of law is the rule of law rooted in the Chinese tradition, and designed and led by the Communist Party of China(CPC). It is not only a tool for government, but also a driver of social progress. Meanwhile, the Chinese human rights system is also designed by the CPC. Both concepts—the socialist rule of law and the human rights system——are different from the West in terms of theory, path and systems. Human rights are the fundamental values of and the ultimate goal pursued by the rule of law; and the rule of law is the recognition of and guarantee for human rights. Efforts must be made to advance legislative, administrative and judicial protection of human rights.     

61st Anniversary of Adoption of Universal Declaration of Human Rights Marked in Beijing

On Dec. 10, 2009, the International Human Rights Day, Scholars and students inBeijing gathered to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in China University of Political Science and Law. The Human Rights and Humanitarian Law Institute of China University of Political Science and Law, the Law School of Renmin University of China, and the LawSchool of Tsinghua University jointly sponsored the commemorations. The commemoration consisted of four parts including ＂the 61 st Anniversary of the Adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Photo Exhibition＂, ＂Remembrance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights＂, and relative academic seminars.     

Spanish Local Delegation of Autonomous Region of Valencia in China

From November 11 to 24, 2005, the local delegation of Valencia led by Francisco Ribes, president of the Association of Friends of China of the Autonomous Region of Valencia, Spain, visited Beijing, Ningbo, Wuxi and Shanghai at the invitation of the CPAFFC. Traditional Friendship As the secretary-general of the Valencian Federation of Provinces and Municipalities, Francisco Ribes were invited to China in 1991 and 1992. After assuming the presidency of the Association of Friends of China of Valencia, he came to visit China several times. He is friendly to China and actively promotes the cultural, economic and trade exchanges between Spain and China and the development of friendly relations between the provinces and municipalities of the two countries.     

Chinese Trade Unions Strive to Protect Workers' Rights and Interests in Dealing with the Global Financial Crisis

Protecting the rights and interests of workers and staff members constitutes an important aspect of China＇s human rights protection. Human rights are the rights and freedoms of humans in their nature, and represent the basic conditions for the free and complete development of the humankind. The educational develop- ment level is an important mark of the level of realization of human rights. China＇s higher education realized the historic development in the 1998- 2007 period, and the number of the enrolled students at common colleges and universities across the nation had exploded from 3.4 million to 18.85 million, the number one in the world.

Charter and Universal Declaration Human rights problem has aroused serious concem from the international community. It was originated in the Second World War. Fascists of Germany, Italy and Japan committed genocide and crimes of killing innocents and it became a matter of worldwide concem to defend the right to life. The war between the anti-fascist alliance against the axis powers including Germany and Japan was in fact a war of protecting the dignity and rights of humanity and a war to defend human rights and for national independence. Tibet's unique natural and cultural environment is a source of fascination to people both inside and outside of China. As overseas Ti-hetan scholar Jambyang Norbu observes, the fondly perceived image of the "Roof of the World" is that it is the Shangri-La of nature, culture and Tibetan Buddhism.

I was very excited of ovtaining a copy of the December issue of China Today and immediately began reading it. My usual method is first to go through the table of contents to see which articles most interest me, and then do intensive reading of those I like best. As I read, I note down new words and expressions, useful sentence structures, and the outline of each article. Translators and Interpreters： A Meeting of Friends

The CPAFFC Delegation Visits Three Baltic Countries

At the invitation of the friendship organizations of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, a delegation of theChinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) led by its vice president ChenHaosu paid a visit to the three Baltic countries in August, 1997. Protection of Freedom of Expression by Chinese Laws

Article 35 of the Constitution provides that citizens of the People＇s Republic of China enjoy freedom of speech, of the press, of assembly, of association, of procession and of demonstration. This accords with provisions of Articles of 19, 21 and 22 of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. In his report at the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China （CPC）, General Secretary Hu Jintao urged to guarantee the people＇s right to freedom of expression. The right to free expression, apart from freedom of speech and of the press, includes the right to use slogans and posters to express political views.
