The 2000 census estimated the ethnic Tibetan population of China at 5,41 million, inhabiting a vast area encompassing Tibet Autonomous Region, Qinghai,Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan and other neighboring provinces. The ethnic Tibetans live on the "roof of the world." at an average altitude of 3000m. Such "a land of snows" and the long history of their religious and cultural life have committed them to a unique concept of harmony and a dispute-mediating tradition, which, among other things, are worthy of our attention.  相似文献

Tu Ethnic Group     
Tu ethnic group, known for their simplicity and industriousness, lives in the northwestern part of China - to the east of Qinghai Lake and south of Qilian Mountain Range and along the banks of the Huangshui and Datong rivers. They have about 192,600 population, which is concentrated mainly in the Huzhu Tu Autonomous County in Northwest China Qinghai Province, and also in the counties of Minhe and Datong. Snuff bottles first appeared in China in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and, as their name suggests, were originally indeed used as a container for snuff tobacco, first of all by the Manchu, Mongols and Tibetans.
