The Socialist Rule of Law with Chinese Characteristics and Human Rights Protection

Law is the fundamental method of governance and the rule of law symbolizes modern civilization. The socialist rule of law is the rule of law rooted in the Chinese tradition, and designed and led by the Communist Party of China(CPC). It is not only a tool for government, but also a driver of social progress. Meanwhile, the Chinese human rights system is also designed by the CPC. Both concepts—the socialist rule of law and the human rights system——are different from the West in terms of theory, path and systems. Human rights are the fundamental values of and the ultimate goal pursued by the rule of law; and the rule of law is the recognition of and guarantee for human rights. Efforts must be made to advance legislative, administrative and judicial protection of human rights.

From November 11 to 24, 2005, the local delegation of Valencia led by Francisco Ribes, president of the Association of Friends of China of the Autonomous Region of Valencia, Spain, visited Beijing, Ningbo, Wuxi and Shanghai at the invitation of the CPAFFC. After assuming the presidency of the Association of Friends of China of Valencia, he came to visit China several times. He is friendly to China and actively promotes the cultural, economic and trade exchanges between Spain and China and the development of friendly relations between the provinces and municipalities of the two countries.

61st Anniversary of Adoption of Universal Declaration of Human Rights Marked in Beijing

On Dec. 10, 2009, the International Human Rights Day, Scholars and students inBeijing gathered to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in China University of Political Science and Law. The Human Rights and Humanitarian Law Institute of China University of Political Science and Law, the Law School of Renmin University of China, and the LawSchool of Tsinghua University jointly sponsored the commemorations. The commemoration consisted of four parts including ＂the 61 st Anniversary of the Adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Photo Exhibition＂, ＂Remembrance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights＂, and relative academic seminars.     

The CPAFFC Delegation Visits Three Baltic Countries

At the invitation of the friendship organizations of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, a delegation of theChinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) led by its vice president ChenHaosu paid a visit to the three Baltic countries in August, 1997. Vitautas Landsbjargis, speaker of the Parlia-ment of Lithuania, Alfreds Cepanis, chairman of the 6th Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, Edgar Savisaar,former prime minister of Estonia and chairman of the City Council of Tallinn, as well as leading officials of thefriendship associations of the three countries and governors and mayors of provinces and cities concerned metwith the delegation. The visit has promoted friendly ties and exchanges and cooperation in the economic,trade and cultural fields between the CPAFFC and the non-governmental organizations in this region, pushedforward the friendship city work which had just started, and increased understanding and friendship betweenthe peoples of China and the three countries.

Strategic Conception of Peaceful Development

General Secretary Hu Jintao set forth six guidelines for the peaceful development of the relations across the Taiwan Straits at the Forum Marking the 30th Anniversary of the Issuance of the Message to Our Compatriots in Taiwan. The six guidelines constitute a collected, systematic and complete exposition of the framework, prospects, structure, path, motivation, conditions, and internal relations of the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations; the relation between peaceful development and peaceful reunification; and the strategic conception of and tactical require ments for peaceful development, and they put the ongoing progress of the peaceful develop ment of cross-Straits relations on track.
