2000 and Beyond:

Established child and youth care training programs attempt to ensure that students become skilled and knowledgeable in core competencies appropriate for the breadth of work settings with children and youth. Providing direction about employment areas also now requires information for students contemplating study at the graduate level. Six future career pathways are described, including preparatory skills, work characteristics and realities about each career area.     

Chapter 18: Providing Competence Building and Normalizing Environments:

Key elements of the HSA service program include contracting, networking, mobilization of community resources, foster parent support systems, and respite care. Procedures for recruiting, licensing, and retaining foster homes are described and implementation difficulties identified.
