The women's liberation movement in China started after the first opium war and it took shape with the aim of protecting the race and salvaging the country. Doubtlessly, the emergence of modern feminism opened the precedent in the theory of women's liberation in China and exerted a profound and far-reaching influence on women's liberation afterwards. But we must face up to the fact that there was some traps or misunderstanding of modern feminism, which were unfavorable for realizing women's rights and such influence was long, so much so that till today we are still seeing its existence. It is, therefore, necessary to have a full reflection of modem feminism, unveil the original meaning of women's rights and make women's rights return to human rights in order to make the development of women's fights continue.  相似文献

THE topic of China's policy of reform and opening-up is invariably associated with Deng Xiaoping, the famous politician and great state leader who initiated China's transformation from a rigid planned economy to a free economic system. Deng Xiaoping is not only considered to be the father of China's reform and opening-up, but also credited with implementing reforms that laid the foundation for the breathtaking economic success that we can see in China today.  相似文献

"Women's rights and interests are human rights" is now a concept accepted by all. The power of the law now safeguards the rights and interests of women. Recalling efforts in recent years to safeguard women's rights and interests, we cannot but feel gratified to know that we have made great progress.  相似文献

BEFORE Zhu Min took the podium at the Beijing Symposium on World Economy and China: Post-crisis Global Economic and Financial Situation, in mid November 2009, the chair made an intriguing introduction to the newly appointed deputy governor of the People's Bank of China: "Though we haven't as yet got official confirmation on Mr. Zhu's next post, one thing we're certain of is that he will be assuming a bigger role in international affairs."  相似文献

DEMOCRACY is a topic often mentioned when certain Western people talk about China. China has chosen to practice a form of democracy that is different from that in Westem countries. As early as in 1987 Deng Xiaoping said, "In the West, democracy means separation of the three powers and multi-party elections. We have no objection to their doing so, but in the Chinese mainland we don't practice multi-party elections, separate the three powers, or use a bicameral system. We practice the monocameral system - the National People's Congress. This bests suits China's realities."  相似文献

Editor's Note: China's vast territory and long history have engendered a profuse and colorful intangible cultural heritage. Wang Wenzhang, president of the China Art Academy, and his staff have spent years on comprehensive research into China's intangible heritage with the aim of salvaging aspects of it that are in danger of dying out. Talking to Wang Wenzhang on the subject truly brings home its universal significance. As Wang says, "The intangible cultural heritage immanent in folklore, ballads, festivals and handicrafts constitute the quintessence of a nation." Folk festivals are a main aspect of the cultural heritage of China's various ethnic groups, one that we will explore and bring to our readers throughout 2008. To quote Wang Wenzhang once more, "History enables knowledge of a nation; knowing its intangible cultural heritage gives insight into its spirit."  相似文献

Though the media's tone about China's perspective on the financial crisis that is ravaging the world is largely upbeat, no-one can turn a blind eye to the impact the crisis has had on us, It is however the rule of nature that good and bad times alter nate, If we can learn lessons and mend our ways accordingly in hard times, we will enter a new, better period with greater strength,  相似文献

A SCENDING the ancient stone steps to Red Gate Gallery reveals the quintessential Beijing pan orama. The gallery is housed in Dongbianmen Watchtower, a Ming Dynasty structure straddling the last crumbling vestiges of Beijing's city wall. Like a besieged bastion of the city's imperial past, the watchtower is hemmed in by railway lines and Beijing's Second Ring Road. The glass and steel edifices of the CBD loom in the distance. It's appropriate that this ancient fortress, surrounded by a cornucopia of modern development, houses a gallery that has long been a cultural bastion of a more contemoorary kind.  相似文献

Examining sports from a cultural perspective rather than their technical aspect, we will see that hidden in the process of globalization is a need to discuss the special values of ethnic or traditional sports. Covered up by the socalled "universality" of sports in general, these special values determine the cultural uniqueness of China's ethnic sports, which is often reduced to oblivion as sports, taken as a whole,  相似文献

THE 30 years of China's reform and opening-up correspond roughly with my own lifetime. I was born in 1973, so I've never known a China that wasn't a rising economic power. Having lived in China for just over a year, I also haven't personally witnessed the immense changes that have swept across the People's Republic since economic liberalization commenced in the late 1970s.  相似文献
