It is being utilized as a vehicle for other things, which in fact have little to do with the virus or the U.S economy.     

Ditching U.S.Securities?

Japan overtook China as the largest foreign holder of U.S.Treasury securities at the end of 2009 after China sold $34.2 billion in American securities last December.China had previously surpassed Japan as the largest holder in September 2008.Since then,China has increased and reduced its holding from time to time.The latest amount,however,accounted for 4 percent of all Chinese holdings and was the biggest single month reduction in years.     

A Due Regard for Multilateralism

A World Trade Organization (WTO) arbitrator on January 26 ruled on the case of the United States—Countervailing Duty Measures on Certain Products From China, determining that China may impose trade retaliations against the U.S. with respect to trade in goods in the amount of$645 million annually given the U.S. failure to comply with a WTO ruling in force. China now urges the U.S. to take immediate action to right its wrongs in trade remedy investigations targeting China.     

A MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL PLATFORM

Paulo Estivallet de Mesquita, Brazilian Ambassador to China China has been Brazil's main trading partner since 2009, and Brazil ranked ninth as China's main trading part-ner in 2020. Last year, Brazil and China established a record-high bilateral trade flow, with over $102 billion. A new bilateral trade record has already been achieved in 2021: From January to September, Brazil-China trade has surpassed $105 billion. Thus, it is fair to say that we have a mature and mutually beneficial commercial relation-ship. However, there is always room for improvement and that is why events such as the CIIE play an important role. More than 22 Brazilian companies were rep-resented at the CIIE, all of them aiming at deepening their knowl-edge of the Chinese market and increasing their local presence.

From Passive Actor to Active Leader

The closing ceremony of the Fourth China International Import Expo (CIIE) took place in Shanghai on November 10. As the world's first dedicated import exhibition at the national level, the CIIE serves as an important platform for international purchasing, investment promotion, cultural exchanges and cooperation. The Fourth CIIE coincided with the 20th anniversary of China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The past two decades have seen China's economic aggregate jump from about 10 trillion yuan ($1.54 trillion) in 2001, to more than 100 trillion yuan ($15.4 trillion) in 2020, while its total foreign trade leapt to $4.6 trillion from $500 billion during the same period.

本文构建了包含消费、投资、出口和国民收入恒等式在内的联立方程组模型,选取1980—2008年的时间序列数据,采用二阶段最小二乘法考察了两岸贸易对台湾经济增长的影响。结果显示,两岸贸易对台湾经济具有较强的拉动作用,并且台湾自大陆进口能够＂创造需求＂,其对台湾经济增长的拉动作用强于台湾对大陆出口。在此基础上,以2008年为模拟基期,以2013年为模拟期,模拟了ECFA早期收获清单的实施对两岸贸易及台湾经济增长的影响。模拟结果显示,ECFA早期收获清单的实施无论对两岸贸易还是整个台湾经济都具有较为显著的增长效应。
