THEY used to call me Private Enterprise Li (Li Minying), but I would rather be known as "Three F Li" (Li Sannong). It was by accident that I became an economist. At the very beginning of China's economic reform, I presented the concept of transforming China's economy through shareholding, and suggested that the private sector and the state-owned sector enjoy equal status in the economy. As a participant in economic policymaking in China I have witnessed a lot of changes to the People's Republic.  相似文献

THERE is nothing shy about China's new generation of Olympic sportsmen. Born almost exclusively in the 1980s, the athletically gifted young men and women who will represent China at the 2008 Games are far more willing to open up to the public than their predecessors, and like 20-somethings everywhere, they are at home on the Internet, managing their own fan blogs and communicating with their peers online.Their uninhibited self-expression has attracted the attention of commercial advertisers, and occasionally some less welcome interest, and they are celebrated as China's "new generation" in sports circles, ready to take center stage in August before a world audience.  相似文献

HE "Tibet Issue" was conceived at a time when Western imperialists were determined to invade and carve up China. They wooed and promoted separatist forces in Tibet from among the serf-owning class, which likewise wished to split Tibet from China with the support of imperialists. Between them, the two sides colluded and fabricated the "Tibet Issue."  相似文献

HAPPY Little submarines, an American-style animation entirely produced by a Chinese studio, was shown in late May at more than 200 digital cinemas around the country. It is one of the few feature-length animated films made and successfully released in China in the past 20 years. "This is the first time we have recouped our investment before the distribution of the film through foreign copyrights," said Jin Guoping, chairman of the Institute of Media Technology (shenzhen) Ltd., affiliated with Global Digital Creations (GDC).
The film tells of two small submarines, "Ali" and "Beibei," who after undergoing countless hardships at sea, finally realize their dream of becoming official scientific research submarines. It is targeted at young children and cost RMB 10 million, but beyond breaking even, Jin said he did not expect too much in box office receipts. "The box office of films for young children is limited, especially in China. The animation consuming market is by no means mature," he said.  相似文献

To mark the 30th anniversary of China's reform and opening, the Communist Party of China, the country's ruling party, called for "promoting the development of cultural undertakings in the coun- tryside and running rural education well." This came at the Third Plenary Session of the Seventeenth Central Committee of the CPC held in October 2007, which set a series of guidelines and policies for the task of building a "new, socialist country- side."  相似文献

Iwas among the first law students China given the opportunity to travel to the Soviet Union for an education. But upon returning to China,I found that I was unable to put what I had learned into practice. China's legal system was still barely in existence, or at least, in function prior to the openingup and reform that started in 1978. After the chaos that decades of "class struggle" caused in China ended, together with a determined group of teachers,  相似文献

On February 21, 1972, U.S. President Richard Nixon started a weeklong official visit to China, the first by an American leader to the People's Republic. Nixon later called it "The week that changed the world." At the end of his trip the two countries released the Joint Communique of the United States of America and the People's Republic of China (also known as Shanghai Communique), in which both expressed a desire to normalize relations and stressed common ground on several key issues. The frosty ties between two of the world's biggest countries began to thaw. On December 16, 1978, China and the U.S. signed the Joint Communiqu6 on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations, officially recognizing each other and establishing diplomatic relations on January 1, 1979. On March 1 the same year they exchanged ambassadors and embassies, and Sino-U.S. relationships entered a new epoch.  相似文献

I can easily feel the increasing attention the world now pays to China at recent international meetings I have attended. My foreign peers all show an interest in China's blueprint for the comprehensively deepened reforms laid out at the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, eager to know what will happen in China and what will it bring to the rest of the world. A question frequently asked is: "How will China influence the world?"  相似文献

IF the sheer number of deals the American National Basketball Association (NBA) has with Chinese television stations around the country is anything to go by, basketball is big business in China these days. In addition to arrangements with 51 local and regional broadcasters in China, the NBA has concluded marketing contracts with 20 major Chinese companies. Millions of Chinese watch NBA games, and 30 percent of the traffic to NBA.com originates in China.  相似文献

CLAD in a dark-blue suit and a red tie, Antonio Laspina looks relaxed, smart and businesslike. "I've keenly felt the changes in China over the past seven or eight years," he says, looking outover Beijing's CBD from his 38th floor office in the Jingguang Center. Nothing encapsulates these changes better than this view over the burgeoning skyscrapers of China's capital.  相似文献

On a hot summer day in August 2006, Lamao Cering crouched in a windy field in west China's Qinghai Province murmuring to herself. "I want to go to school," she chanted quietly over and over in an almost mantra-like trance, oblivious to her father's call to come back and tend the sheep.  相似文献

The term "Turkistan" appeared in Arabic geographical works in the Middle Ages. It meant "the region of the Turks" and referred to the areas north of the Sir River in Central Asia and the adjoining areas to the east of the river. With the evolution of history, the modem ethnic groups in Central Asia were established one after another. By the 18th century, the geographical concept of "Turkistan" was already very vague,  相似文献

"When it comes to China, you can never know enough."These were the words inscribed on the first page of the booK Law and Society in Traditional China, given to me by a fellow student Tan Bo-Chen,on day one of my year at Peking University back in September 2016.Over the past few years,I have slowly come to understand the depth of meaning in this phrase about such a culturally unique and historically great civilization. The more time I spend in China, and indeed the more I know about China, the less I seem to comprehend it This country is absolutely fascinating:There is a mismatch between past and present;tradition and modernity;fast pace and slow pace;cities and mountains.  相似文献
