International Politics： A Desirable Paradigm

This article first traces the origin of four concepts International Politics (IP), International Relations (IR), World Politics (WP) and Global Politics (GP) and discusses the similarities among these four paradigms. It then analyses their application both at home and abroad. Finally, it argues for the desirability of selecting the concept of IP in academic training, thus facilitating practical application of concepts. It asserts that this will not only enhance academic discussion about IP among different Chinese schools of thought, but also help blazing new ideas.     

Views on the Current International Situation and Future International Order

The contemporary world situation is undergoing complex and deep changes and at a conjuncture of major transformation and readjustment. Generally speaking, the international situation is stable and the common wish of the people of the world is to seek peace, development and cooperation. The international balance of power is developing in the direction favourable to world peace, leaving little possibility of major scourge of war that may disequilibrate world configuration. But the old problems affecting world tranquillity are still pending with cropping up of new problems and new conflicts. The relations among major world powers are undergoing delicate changes. There is uncertainty in regional conflicts and hot spot issues in the Middle East and Africa. Traditional security threats are intertwined with non-traditional ones.

Chinese Public Diplomacy toward Europe： Goals, Progress and Challenges

As a leader of international public opinion, Europe often dictates the Western view of China. Unfortunately, Europe has long been one of the regions that hold the most unfavorable view of China. To deploy political influence, economic competitiveness, an attractive image and moral force in diplomacy, as Chinese President Hu Jintao advocates, China must heed Europeans’ perceptions and establish a stable and positive image of China in Europe through public diplomacy. Since Chinese public diplomacy has not yet achieved encouraging results in Europe, China has to review and improve its efforts.
