To mark the 30th anniversary of China＇s reform and opening up, an academic symposium, organized by the China-Society Studies （CSHRS）, for Human Rights is now in session. The symposium is intended to review China＇s experiences in developing human rights over the past three decades, which we believe will be important to China＇s effort to promote, in an all- round way, the development of its human rights cause in the new situation. Present here are experts in the realm of human rights, those who have made positive efforts to publicize the progress of China＇s human rights cause to a global audience, and those who are reputed for their contributions to studies of human rights theories in China.

Changes in China＇s traditional ethnic sports culture refer to a changes in the structure, pattern and style of traditional ethnic sports as a cultural system. The changes are due to an increase or decrease in the system＇s cultural content.     

~New Model of Urbanization

XI＇AN and Xianyang in west China＇s Shaanxi Prov- ince are among the oldest cities in China and both once served as the country＇s capital in an- cient times. In May 2011, the central government decided to create a new district at the junction of the two cities that feature both idyllic sceneries and modern amenities. This project is an exploration of a new path to China＇s urbanization.     

The Categorization of China＇s Ethnic Minorities Sports

A total of 676 traditional sports have been identified as originating with China＇s 55 ethnic minorities. They are introduced in the book, About China＇s Ethnic Traditional Sports, which was published after nationwide research and sorting in China. Some of these sports are now part of people＇s daily life and entertainment, and some continue to exist after being incorporated into folk dances.

THE overall global context of Asia＇s economic growth in 20a3 remains negative, particularly in developed economies. At the end of last year Japan＇s GDP was 1.7 percent below its maxi- mmn prior to the international financial crisis, while GDP in the European Union was 9.1 percent below. Time to Tolk of Slowdown

THE recent publication of America＇s second quarter GDP data, following that for China, makes it possible to accurately compare the recent performance of the world＇s two largest economies and the results are extremely striking. In the last year the slowdown in the U.S. economy has been far more serious than in China. Therefore while both economies are being adversely affected by current negative trends in the world economy, China is dealing with these much more successfully than the U.S. In light of media discussion about China＇s economic ＂slowdown＂ it is equally important that attention is paid to understanding why the U.S.＇s own economic slowdown is much worse than China＇s when confronted with similar global economic trends.

The year 2010 concludes with several fresh entries in China＇s book of honor： the Shanghai World Expo set a record of 70 million visitors; China overtook Japan as runner up for the world＇s largest GDP, second only to the U.S.; and the World Bank escalated China＇s voting clout to 4.42 percent, the third largest in the organization. Amid the cheers and plaudits for these achievements are complaints and grumblings that can＇t be overlooked.
