This article discusses the aspects of narrative and character development that make films a useful tool to supplement classroom legal education. Moreover, utilizing film is particularly effective for learning and exploring the dynamics of human relationships at the center of family law cases. When designing a film and family law course instructors should seek to promote creative thinking, cultural competence, student exploration of bias and assumptions and best practices for attorneys based on the examples provided in the film. Films make the learning process more fun, but still provide substantial opportunities to broaden students' concept of the impact of law on family members.  相似文献

In China the regulation of credit and capital is conducted by the banking system. Originally this system was highly centralized under the direct control the Ministry of Finance. More recently, as the Ministry of Finance has become busier with additional responsibilities such as the management of an increasingly complex tax system, and the banking system has gained its independence.

For the banks, this reorganization not only represents an increase in authority and status, it also makes possible an increased effectiveness in carrying out existing regulatory responsibilities. The need for increased effectiveness becomes evident on review of the role that the banks have played in Chinese society prior to the 1985 reforms. Without the means to enforce their authority, the banks could not be as influential in regulating the economy as had been intended.

Because they have been provided with enforcement regulations, the banks can now influence not only the provision of credit and currency but also the management of group and individual businesses and organizations throughout China. As the communist party stepping back from law and policy enforcement, the banks are partially filling the vacuum.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Implementing police in schools is a common strategy for ensuring school safety, but it is unknown whether, to what extent, and for whom the presence of police in schools affects student arrest rates. Utilizing nationwide data from the 2013–2014 Civil Rights Data Collection (N = 92,620), this study examines how police presence is related to student arrest rates, and whether this association varies by student race/ethnicity and gender. Path models and propensity score matching models show that the association between police presence and arrest rates was stronger for all the groups examined in schools with police, particularly for Black students and boys. This provides support for criminalization theories suggesting that police presence results in more arrests.  相似文献

This article examines policing in Sierra Leone four years after the civil war. It evaluates the achievements in the area of policing against the major policing challenges in African post-conflict societies. These are recruitment and (re)training of a civilian force; establishing an organizational culture that is accountable and responsive to citizen concerns; organizational rebuilding and re-equipment; utilizing the resources of commercial and community organized policing; and establishing a sustainable basis. The research finds that for all the positive achievements, the fact remains that the government of Sierra Leone still does not exert effective control over, nor is it able to deliver state policing services to, significant parts of its own territory. The 7,000 active police officers are too small in number and too limited in resources to provide all Sierra Leone's citizens with a service that protects them from crime and investigates crime. Its fundamental weaknesses mean that post-conflict internal security programmes may have to look again at others who currently authorize and provide policing. It may be that some community led policing groups can be harnessed and if necessary reformed to assist the police in establishing the rule of law.  相似文献
