Guns 'N jobs: The FDR legacy

The intrusion of war is likely to alter the standard economic voting calculus. A wartime economy is not expected to deliver the same political benefits or costs, in terms of presidential approval or votes in an election, as does a peacetime economy. The Roosevelt presidency presents a perfect target to examine economic voting in wartime. Using monthly polling data on presidential approval from late 1937 to 1945, we demonstrate that the American public suspended standard economic-voting logic during World War II. One explanation for this suspension is the enormous size of U.S. military spending. Using data on government spending from 1929 to 1950, we show that military spending had a huge effect on unemployment while the effect of non-military spending proves negligible and non-significant. It was military spending triggered by war, not the New Deal, that vanquished the Great Depression.     

Mapping the consumption of government communication: a qualitative study in Germany

Successful communication between citizens and government is critical for the effective implementation of governance. Although government communication is highly relevant to society, few governments fully exploit the potential benefits of the direct communication instruments at their disposal. To establish foundations for encouraging various forms of government communication, this article starts by examining its reception among German focus groups and thus offering general implications for successful, citizen‐sensitive government communication. The results suggest the need for better articulation of interests in government communication, such that they appear more egalitarian, closer to the citizen, and online—that is, successful government communication demands considerable proximity to citizens, interactive feedback channels, and systematic participation by citizens in political processes. Erfolgt nach der Anmerkung der Einr?umung von Wohnungseigentum nach § 40 Abs 2 WEG (allenfalls im Rang der Anmerkung nach § 42 Abs 1 WEG) eine Streitanmerkung (zB L?schungs- oder Ersitzungsklage) des wahren Eigentümers, der gegen den bücherlichen Scheineigentümer sein vor der Ranganmerkung erworbenes Eigentum geltend macht, kann diese bei Einverleibung im angemerkten Rang nicht nach § 57 Abs 1 GBG gel?scht werden.     

Begriff der Gemeinschaftsanlagen und Verteilung der Kosten hiefür

Kosten für die Fernüberwachung technischer Anlagen im Haus von einem Hausbetreuungszentrum aus sind keine Betriebs-, sondern Erhaltungskosten. Zum Begriff und der Abgrenzung von Gemeinschaftsanlagen, insb von Garagen und Waschküchen, und deren Zubeh?r. Zu den Kosten des Betriebes der "sonstigen Gemeinschaftsanlagen, die allen Mietern zur Verfügung stehen", z?hlen die Kosten der Aufrechterhaltung des Betriebes von Anlagen, die zum Schutz vor Brand oder sonstigen Gefahren gerade im Hochhausneubau üblich sind oder gar von der Bauordnung bzw von der Baubeh?rde vorgeschrieben werden, im MRG-Bereich jedoch nicht Kosten, die nur bestimmten (hier Garagen-)Benützern dienen. Im WGG-Anwendungsbereich ist die Regelung des § 24 Abs 1 MRG über die Aufteilung der Kosten (nur) auf die Benützer der Gemeinschaftsanlage, nur anwendbar, wenn eine dahingehende schriftliche Vereinbarung zwischen GBV und allen Mietern vorliegt, sodass ansonsten die Kosten des Betriebes nach dem allgemeinen BK-Schlüssel zu verteilen sind.     

Fighting to win: Wartime morale in the American public

The ingredients of wartime morale are the subject of lively debate, with casualties, prospect of victory, and elite cues representing the major points of view. This research covers the wars in Korea and Vietnam with expanded time series of public support and rare surveys that probed perceptions of victory during those military interventions. The prospect of victory affected wartime morale during both of those conflicts. It did so quite uniformly in the American public, cutting across elite cues such as partisanship.
