Comparison of Factors Associated with Parricide in Adults and Adolescents

Despite high revalence rates of intimate partner violence in the lives of extremely poor women with depenent children, few studies have investigated the patterns of violence that occur over time, and the characteristics of women that serve as risk markers for partner violence. This study compared 43 adult parricides and 12 adolescent parricides. Several statistically significant differences were observed. Adults suffer from severe mental disorders, have a history of violent behavior and psychiatric antecedents, and are more likely to threaten their parents. Less predictable in their acting out, adolescents present several profiles as a function of victims’ sex, number of victims, diagnostic elements, and being witness to or victim of intrafamilial violence. Results suggest different approaches should be used to understand the dynamics and course of these two groups.

Der Beitrag untersucht das Zusammenwirken des § 36a GenTG mit den allgemeinen zivilrechtlichen Haftungsnormen. Im Zentrum steht die Ermittlung der Wirkungsweise des § 36a GenTG insbesondere im Kontext des § 906 Abs. 2 S. 2 BGB; dazu tritt die Untersuchung sowohl der allgemein in Fällen der Umwelthaftung bestehenden materiellrechtlichen, insbesondere die Kausalitätsfrage betreffenden Schwierigkeiten als auch der beweisrechtlichen Lage. Ferner wird die Anwendbarkeit möglicherweise konkurrierender weiterer Schadensersatznormen aus dem Bereich des Rechts der unerlaubten Handlung wie auch besonderer Gefährdungshaftungsgesetze dargestellt.

Are “We” More Punitive than “Me”? Self-Construal Styles,Justice-Related Attitudes,and Punitive Judgments

Cross-cultural as well as procedural justice research suggests that an interdependent self-construal is connected to more justice-related concerns, more moral outrage following observed unethical behavior, and a preference for effective but constructive sanctions. Independent self-construal, on the other hand, is expected to be connected to weaker moral reactions toward injustice, but also to preferring punitive over constructive forms of sanctions. Two studies were conducted in which dispositional self-construal was measured. In Study 2, self-construal was also manipulated with a priming procedure. Results show that interdependent self-construal is connected to stronger emotional reactions toward injustice, to social and moral concerns, to preferences for constructive forms, but also to retribution-oriented goals of punitive sanctions. Independent self-construal, on the other hand, goes along with fewer moral concerns, lower punitiveness, but more draconic attitudes.
