Abstract: Achieving employment equity has become an important organizational goal. An important part of an Employment Equity Program (EEP) is to inform designated group members (i.e., women, members of visible minorities, disabled persons and aboriginal peoples) that career opportunities are available to them. Public awareness programs that provide this information, such as publicity campaigns and visits to schools and community centres, are infrequently used, however. The research reported in this article demonstrates that public awareness programs can be used to encourage designated group members to apply for jobs that are traditionally avoided. In this study, young women demonstrated a greater interest in and intention to choose non-traditional careers after participating in a public awareness program (an information session) about one specific non-traditional career (police officer). Implications of this research for recruiting and employment equity initiatives are discussed. Sommaire: L'éuité en matière d'emploi est l'une des principales préoccupations des organisations. 1 cet effet, les programmes d'équité en matière d'emploi (PEME) visent à corriger la discrimination dans l'emploi à 1'égard des groupes défavorisés (femmes, minorités visibles, handicapés et autochtones). Les programmes d'information publique offrant une telle information, par le biais de campagnes d'information, de visites scolaires et dans les centres communautaires, sont cependant peu utilisés. Dans cet article, les réultats de notre recherche démontrent que les programmes d'information publique peuvent encourager les membres des groupes défavorisés à soumettre leur candidature dans les secteurs d'emploi non-traditionnels. Dans cette étude, des jeunes femmes ont montré un intérêt plus prononcéà choisir une carrière non-traditionnelle après avoir participéà un programme d'information publique (une séance d'information sur la carrière d'officier de police). Pour terminer, nous discutons les implications de cette recherche sur le recrutement ainsi que les programmes sur l'équité en matière d'emploi.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In the Introduction to this special issue, I first provide an overview of the programme of 'de-extremification' and mass internment in Xinjiang since early 2017. I then situate this development against the ‘ideological turn’ in Chinese Communist Party policy under President Xi Jinping, highlighting the new emphasis on stability maintenance and ideational governance. Next, I explore experiences of (in)security in Uyghur communities in- and outside of Xinjiang in the era of internment to consider how far PRC counter-terrorism initiatives have now evolved into state terror. In doing so, I apply Ruth Blakeley's (2012) definition of state terror as a deliberate act of violence against civilians, or threat of violence where a climate of fear is already established by earlier acts of violence; as perpetrated by actors on behalf of or in conjunction with the state; as intended to induce extreme fear in target observers who identify with the victim; and as forcing the target audience to consider changing its behaviour. Improvements in detection limits/sensitivity and lower sample consumption are potential benefits of reducing PCR reaction volumes used in forensic DNA typing of crime scene samples. This premise was studied first with experimental mixtures and a nine-loci megaplex, which demonstrated stochiometric amplification and accurate detection. Next, adjudicated casework samples were subjected to amplification under 15 different template DNA to PCR reaction volume ratios. Reduction of PCR reaction volume and DNA down to 10 microL and 0.500 ng, respectively, produced identical profiles with the same signal intensity and heterozygous allele peak height ratio (HR). Reduction to 5 microL and 0.063 ng yielded HR values that were slightly affected in one to three STR loci. PCR reaction volume reduction can enhance detection and sensitivity while reducing the consumption of irreplaceable crime scene samples.  相似文献

Two studies tested the hypothesis that organizational decision makers attempt to counterbalance contribution-based distributions of financial/material rewards (a “merit” system that creates monetary inequality) with need- and equality-based allocations of socioemotional rewards, in effect allocating “roses” in lieu of more “bread”. Experiment 1 had a two-factor design (Reward Type × Magnitude of Income Inequality); 67 subjects were given a managerial in-basket exercise in which they expressed their preferences for a variety of distributive justice rules for seven different types of rewards. Experiment 2 (N=39) had the same design, with a stronger manipulation of magnitude of inequality. Results of the two experiments were consistent with the counterbalancing hypothesis, irrespective of magnitude of income inequality; financially related rewards (e.g., profit sharing, office space, company cars) were distributed with more emphasis on contribution rules (i.e., performance, status), while more socioemotional rewards (e.g., help for an employee's spouse, friendliness) were allocated with more emphasis on equality among individuals, equality across groups, and personal need.  相似文献
