This work intends to provide a wide scope of the legal situation in Brazil referred to Human Embryos and how it has been developed through the 20th century. Across the last century, the human being got the possibility of making genetic experiments with human embryos. Our main goal is to assume the future responsibility of these actions through a juridical and ethical point of view.

Das Europ?ische übereinkommen zum Schutz des arch?ologischen Erbes vom 16. 1. 1992 wurde 2002 in Deutschland ratifiziert (Art. 59 Abs. 2 GG) und ist damit als Bundesgesetz in Kraft getreten. Nun muss es wegen der Kompetenzen der L?nder für den Denkmalschutz (Art. 30, 70, 83 GG) überwiegend von den L?ndern transformiert werden. Dies folgt aus der Pflicht zu bundesfreundlichem Verhalten (Bundestreue), zumal die L?nder vorher gegenüber dem Bund zugestimmt hatten. Die Gegenüberstellung der Verpflichtungen aus dem übereinkommen mit den bestehenden Regelungen der Denkmalschutzgesetze ergibt, dass legislative Ma?nahmen der L?nder erforderlich sind. Auch der Bund muss das arch?ologische Erbe mehr als bisher berücksichtigen. Eine Rolle rückw?rts darf es nun im Denkmalschutzrecht nach den eingegangenen Verpflichtungen nicht geben.     

An improved method for subtyping Pi in old bloodstains.

Immunofixation procedures were used for detecting alpha-1 antitrypsin protease inhibitor (Pi) phenotypes in bloodstains. Neuraminidase elution of bloodstains, together with isoelectric focusing, immunofixation, and silver staining techniques, makes possible Pi subtyping in old bloodstains. No extra bands appear when the storage time is no longer than three months.     

Public service privatisation and crisis in Argentina

This article discusses the privatisation of public services in Argentina in light of the severe crisis that afflicted the country between 1999 and 2002. An inadequate regulatory framework and the absence of effective regulatory agencies resulted in the exercise of monopolistic power over public service fees. The emergence of a series of external shocks, starting in 1997 with the SE Asia crisis, weakened the country's external accounts. In the context of a strict fixed exchange-rate regime, rising public service fees and overseas obligations contracted by the privatised firms placed growing pressure on the balance of payments. Although privatised firms were not directly responsible for the four-year recession or the balance-of-payments crisis, their actions contributed to the onset and prolongation of the difficulties faced by Argentina.

Population data on the D1S1656 and D12S391 STR loci in Andalusia (south Spain) and the maghreb (north Africa).

Allele and genotype frequencies for two tetrameric short tandem repeat (STR) loci were determined in two population samples, from Andalusia (S Spain; n = 127) and the Maghreb (N Africa; n = 40). After denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, 14 alleles were identified for D12S391 and 13 alleles for D1S1656. No deviations from the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium were detected. Some statistical parameters of forensic interest (H, PD, EC) were also calculated, and the data obtained for both populations were compared. Sequencing data of several intermediate D12S391 alleles designated 17.3, 18.3, and 19.3 are also presented.
