Cultural Adaptation and Validation of the Movers Scale in a French-Canadian Population

The purpose of this paper is to present the results of a study that draws upon a collaborative research strategy and has two main objectives: 1) Translating and adapting into French the Measure of Victim Empowerment Related to Safety (MOVERS scale) (Goodman et al. Psychology of Violence, 5(4), 355-366, 2015a); 2) Validating the French version of the MOVERS scale in a population of French-Canadian women receiving shelter services. The French-Canadian MOVERS (FCM) was administered to 189 women receiving shelter services in the province of Québec (Canada). The factorial structure, reliability and validity of the FCM were tested. This paper highlights that the FCM replicates the three dimensions found in the original version (Goodman et al. Psychology of Violence, 5(4), 355-366, 2015a), displays significant correlations with measures of depression, anxiety and stress, self-esteem, perceived social support, satisfaction with life and self-efficacy, and has overall good reliability estimates. The FCM is a valid and reliable scale to assess safety-related empowerment among women receiving shelter services. Furthermore, the scale provides interesting opportunities to shelter workers, which will be discussed in the paper.

     

Die Zugriffsverbote des § 42 Abs. 1 BNatSchG im Zulassungs- und Bauleitplanverfahren – unter Berücksichtigung der Entscheidung des BVerwG zur Ortsumgehung Bad Oeynhausen (in diesem Heft)

Zusammenfassung  Artenschutzrechtliche Regelungen schieben sich in verwaltungsrechtlichen Zulassungsverfahren immer mehr in den Vordergrund und erweisen sich als ein ?u?erst schwieriger Problemkreis. Teilweise scheint der Artenschutz inzwischen der Kernpunkt der naturschutzrechtlichen Beurteilung zu werden, wobei die Reichweite der Tatbestandsmerkmale nicht immer beachtet wird. Die nachfolgende Ausführungen sollen dazu beitragen, den Anwendungsbereich der artenschutzrechtlichen Verbote nach § 42 Abs. 1 BNatSchG zu konturieren und deren Umfang der gesetzlichen Einschr?nkungen zu erl?utern. Die Entscheidung des BVerwG zur Ortsumgehung Bad Oeynhausen wurde berücksichtigt.     

Left-right party ideology and government policies: A meta-analysis

Abstract. This paper summarizes how the partisan influence literature assesses the relationship between the left–right party composition of government and policy outputs through a meta–analysis of 693 parameter estimates of the party–policy relationship published in 43 empirical studies. Based on a simplified 'combined tests' meta–analytic technique, we show that the average correlation between the party composition of government and policy outputs is not significantly different from zero. A mutivariate logistic regression analysis examines how support for partisan theory is affected by a subset of mediating factors that can be applied to all the estimates under review. The analysis demonstrates that there are clearly identifiable conditions under which the probability of support for partisan theory can be substantially increased. We conclude that further research is needed on institutional and socio–economic determinants of public policy.

Political Influence,Economic Interests and Endogenous Tax Structure in a Computable Equilibrium Framework: With Application to the United States, 1973 and 1983

We consider the properties of a computable equilibrium model ofa competitive political economy in which the economic interestsof groups of voters and their effective influence on equilibriumpolicy outcomes can be explicitely distinguished and computed.The model incorporates an amended version of the GEMTAP taxmodel, calibrated to data for the United States for 1973 and1983. Emphasis is placed on how the aggregation of GEMTAPhouseholds into homogeneous groups affects the numericalrepresentation of interests and influence for representativemembers of each group.
