The level of effectiveness of an environmental policy depends to a significant degree on the level of acceptance and cooperation of citizens. The relevant literature indicates that social capital may significantly influence environmentally responsible behaviour connected with the implementation of an environmental policy. In this context, the present article aims to further explore this field by introducing the issue of non-economic social costs and benefits imposed from environmental policies. In particular, it is supported, both theoretically and empirically, that social costs and benefits may influence the decision of individuals to cooperate and comply with an environmental policy and thus may be a significant indicator for environmental behaviour. Furthermore, these social costs and benefits may differ among individuals and are influenced by social capital elements. Consequently, through the article the need of exploring social capital prior to environmental policy implementation is underlined along with the need of creating social capital assessment techniques. 相似文献

The interiors of fifty eight vehicles were examined and samples were taken. All vehicles had samples of flocked material in their interiors. Flocked material was found on the window channels, window frames, door edges and in glove compartments or central console compartments. The majority of flock fibres used in the vehicles examined were carbon black pigmented polyester or nylon. A variety of dyed nylon fibres were also used in the vehicles. The discrimination power of dyed flock fibres used in the interior of vehicles was found to be 0.974. The front seats of these vehicles were examined for loose flock fibres. All vehicles had flock fibres present on the front seats. In the majority of vehicles, flock originating from material in the vehicle's interior was present on the front seats of the vehicle. The number of flock fibres present on the front seats varied greatly from car to car but did not appear to be dependant on the type of seat fabric or on which areas in the car were flocked. 相似文献

The present study attempted a preliminary validation of the Brief Spousal Assault Form for the Evaluation of Risk (B-SAFER)
in Hong Kong. In-depth assessment was conducted on 43 identified batterers and 46 control male subjects. Results suggested
that the B-SAFER could correctly classify 95% of the cases. Scores relating to the current situation were found to be particularly
important in predicting intimate partner violence. The concurrent validity of the B-SAFER was demonstrated by its correlation
with the Conflict Tactics Scale scores. Findings were discussed in the context of developing screening tool in the community

The aim of this research note paper is to offer an exploratory review of the extent to which the leading ocean cruise companies are publicly addressing and reporting on their sustainability strategies and achievements and to offer some reflections on sustainability within the cruise industry. The paper begins with an outline of cruising and the cruising industry and a short commentary on the sustainability challenges the industry faces. The information on which the paper is based is drawn from the leading cruise companies' corporate web sites. The findings of the paper reveal a marked variation in the extent to which the leading cruise companies publicly report on their sustainability strategies and achievements. While the two leading cruise companies, namely the Carnival Corporation and Royal Caribbean Cruises, published extensive sustainability reports which covered a number of environmental social and economic issues, the other leading cruise companies published very limited information on sustainability. More critically the authors argued that the cruise companies' commitments to sustainability are driven by the search for efficiency gains and are couched within existing business models centred on continuing growth than on maintaining the viability of natural ecosystems and communities. As such the leading UK retailers are, at best, currently pursuing a ‘weak’ rather than a ‘strong’ model of sustainability. The British Retail Consortium's Better Retail, Better World initiative launched in 2018 and looks to mobilise the retail industry to make a leading contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This short commentary paper outlines the features of this initiative and offers some reflections on some of the challenges British retailers seem likely to face in looking to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. These challenges include the strategic prioritisation of SDGs, issues of measurement and metrics, communicating the retailers' position on the SDGs to consumers and the stakeholders, the retailers' financial commitment to the SDGs within a difficult trading environment, and fundamental tensions between sustainability and economic growth. 相似文献
