During the years of authoritarian regimes in several countries of Latin America, women's political participation against these governments has had a distinctive political imagination—a female political imagination that uses scarfs, photographs tied to the bodies of the participants, white handkerchiefs and flowers among other symbolic objects. This paper will study the metaphors of female political ideology in two countries of the Southern Cone: Argentina and the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo and in Chile Women for life.  相似文献

Studies of women as a specific object of inquiry began to become popular in the mid-seventies in eastern Africa. This is related to growing concern among state and international agencies about women as a problem in production and reproduction. The economic crises has led to heightened concern about the political consequences of real declines in income, the high rates of malnutrition and infant and child mortality rates, and the deterioration of peasant agriculture combined with the breakdown of peasant family relations. Women became of pivotal concern in the effort to forestall revolution as well as to increase production of food and export crops, given their central role as food producers in the peasant sector, and as providers of nearly all other family needs in cash and in kind. Two opposing lines have emerged in Women's Studies. One, the integration line, is identified with bourgeois feminism which calls for equal participation in education, employment and other spheres of society while maintaining the status quo of society. Women-in-development (WID) research and actions falls into this category. The other line calls for transformation of society through revolutionary struggles organised and led by the progressive segment of the women masses in Africa. This category is far less defined, in part a reflection of the level of class consciousness and organisation in the region and the way in which women intellectuals are divorced from the masses.Analysis of the issues which have arisen in relevant research indicates the significance of class differentiation among women, and the need to distinguish different kinds of male-female relations both within and across the different classes in society. A critical analysis is needed of Women's Studies which is carefully periodized to take into account different stages in the capital accumulation process and different forms of capital accumulation as these relate to concrete struggles of different classes of women.  相似文献

A developmental scheme has been proposed which recognizes clusters of variables of adolescent behavior in the area of heterosexual object relationship development. These periods-(I) stage of sexual awakening (13–15), (II) stage of practicing (14–17), (III) stage of acceptance (16–19), (IV) stage of permanent object choice (18–25)-reflect the developing capacity of object relationship and are a a recapitulation on a higher level of functioning of the separation-individuation operations of the infant. The dating patterns at these levels of development provide a sensitive indication of growth, and unworked-through development is reflected in immature patterns. The current trends in dating described are considered to be a function of the prolongation of adolescence and not pathological.Graduate of the Chicago Medical School, psychiatric training at The University of Michigan Neuropsychiatric Institute and the Institute for Juvenile Research, Chicago. Latin America: surrounded by blue, intemperate and at times macabre oceans; enclosure of enormous mountain ranges, volcanos, glaciers, rivers, jungles; land of poets who have come from tiny little villages to reveal the secrets of their far-off regions and to sing of them to other men. Let us recall the rural school teacher, Gabriela Mistral, and Pablo Neruda, both from Chile, and Gabriel García Márquez, of Colombia, who taught us that yellow butterflies are magical and that a woman hanging out sheets in the garden can indeed ascent to heaven. It is worth noting that all three of these writers were awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in recent decades: Mistral in 1945; Neruda in 1971; and García Márquez in 1982. Latin America's other winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature was Miguel Angel Asturias, of Guatemala, in 1967. All these splendid writers were from an area said to be Third World, said to be underdeveloped, or in the new parlance, ‘developing’.And then we have the other Latin America: a land of absences; of sudden deaths that never occur by accident; a continent of the ones who have disappeared; of the Madwomen of the Plaza de Mayo, the women who, for years now, gather every Thursday in the deserted Plaza de Mayo of Buenos Aires to weep, to scream and to beseech heaven and earth for news of their missing loved ones.Where is this Latin America? What is it really like?  相似文献

In response to regulatory and financial pressures, entities participating in the healthcare industry have joined with others in order to maintain, even improve, their market positions. In the non-profit sector of the industry, partnerships, mergers, and acquisitions have included arrangements whereby some corporate partners have interlocking directors. After review of the fiduciary duties of care and loyalty owed by corporate board members, and their application to traditional performance and conflict of interest situations, the authors address two scenarios raising interlocking director issues.  相似文献
