Morphological changes in lungs of patients with spinal injuries died in hospital

Morphological characteristics of changes in the spine and lungs in patients with spinal injuries dead in hospital are described. Spinal edemas were detected in all cases. Edemas were found even in subjects dead at the place where the injury was inflicted. Morphological changes in the lungs were characterized by a phase-wise process, depended on the volume of injury, duration of hospitalization, medical care rendered, and manifested by disorders of blood content of the organ, development of tissue edema, and pneumonia. These data do not rule out the development of pneumonia in patients with spinal injuries.     

Diagnostic evaluation of main signs of liquor crystallograms in live subjects with craniocerebral injuries of different severity

Liquor samples from 159 live subjects with craniocerebral injuries were analyzed. Forty-four patients had brain concussions, 30 light contusions of the brain, 43 medium-severe contusions of the brain, and 42 severe contusions of the brain. Crystallograms were evaluated by 37 signs detected visually and by stereoscopy. The main diagnostic criteria for evaluation of the severity of craniocerebral injury were defined.     

Comparative characteristics of angulometric parameters of teeth and dentitions in terms of personal identification

Angulometric teleroentgenographic characteristics of teeth were compared for 158 subjects. A computer technology of calculation and assessment of 47 angular (quantitative) parameters characterizing spatial position of the teeth and jaws is proposed. This complex of parameters can be used as an additional test in personal identification.     

Quantitative assessment of brain hydration in determination of death speed and type of tanatogenesis in forensic medical practice

Brain hydration was determined in death of strangulation mechanical asphyxia, acute alcoholic poisoning, acute poisoning with opiates, cancer of stage IV, coronary heart disease with acute heart failure, hemorrhagic stroke. Brainstem edema (BSE) occurred in 69.2% cases (upper BSE - 20.2%, lower BSE - 17.3%, BSE of the all parts - 31.7%). BSE was present in all cases of opiate poisoning; 52.9% cases of hemorrhagic strokes, 61.3% cases of coronary heart disease. The data obtained show prevalence of brain tanatogenesis in death of the above diseases. Hypohydration and hyperhydration of the brain were observed in short and slow agony, respectively.     

The role of retroperitoneal hematomas in thanatogenesis of pelvic trauma

A brief statistical analysis of the pelvic hematomas' evolution in traumas with various localizations is presented in the article. The current published data were made use of to describe the state-of-art for the time being. Finally, problems related with the forensic-medical aspects of the issue are defined, and methods to cope with them are appropriately suggested.
