Measures of audience overlap between news sources give us information on the diversity of people’s media diets and the similarity of news outlets in terms of the audiences they share. This provides a way of addressing key questions like whether audiences are increasingly fragmented. In this article, we use audience overlap estimates to build networks that we then analyze to extract the backbone—that is, the overlapping ties that are statistically significant. We argue that the analysis of this backbone structure offers metrics that can be used to compare news consumption patterns across countries, between groups, and over time. Our analytical approach offers a new way of understanding audience structures that can enable more comparative research and, thus, more empirically grounded theoretical understandings of audience behavior in an increasingly digital media environment. 相似文献

The relationship between physical abuse and family functioning was investigated in a comparative study of victims of adolescent physical abuse. The sample consisted of 99 physically abused adolescents and 99 nonabused adolescents who were administered the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) and Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (FACES III). These measures assess family functioning in terms of adolescents' perception of their family's cohesiveness, flexibility, and the degree to which their parents provide care and protection. The relationship between family functioning and physical abuse, severity of abuse, and date of abuse onset was investigated. Abused adolescents perceived their families as significantly less adaptable, less cohesive, and less balanced than the comparison adolescents. Fathers and mothers of abused adolescents were viewed as less caring; abuse group fathers were also viewed as more overprotective. Family functioning was not different when childhood-onset abuse was compared to adolescent-onset abuse. Severity of abuse also did not differ in the childhood and adolescent onset groups. It was concluded that physically abused adolescents view their families as rigid, and their parents as emotionally unavailable. From the point of view of modes of governance and constellations of interdependence, EU research policy offers ideal conditions for the flexible inclusion of non‐member states: it is based on transgovernmental coordination through policy networks rather than supranational legislation, it follows scientific rather than political imperatives, and cooperation is in the interest of both the EU and of Switzerland. This article analyses the degree to which these factors have allowed for Switzerland's inclusion into the regulatory and organisational aspects of EU research policy, and highlights the limits of such flexible sectoral integration. 相似文献

This study examined the mediating role of self-blaming attributions on peer victimization-maladjustment relations in middle
school and the moderating role of classroom ethnic diversity. Latino and African American 6th grade participants (N = 1105, 56% female) were recruited from middle schools in which they were either members of the numerical majority ethnic
group, the numerical minority, or one of several ethnic groups in ethnically diverse schools. Peer nomination data were gathered
in the Fall of 6th grade to determine which students had reputations as victims of harassment and self-report data on self-blame
for peer harassment and the adjustment outcomes of depressive symptoms and feelings of self-worth were gathered in the Spring
of 6th grade, approximately 6 months later. A mediational model in which self-blame partly explained the relation between
victimization and maladjustment was supported among students from the majority ethnic group in their classroom but not among
students from the minority group. The usefulness of including ethnic diversity as an important context variable in studies
of peer victimization during early adolescence was discussed.

The current study modeled trajectories of substance use from ages 15 to 20 among 1,095 male serious juvenile offenders (M age = 16.54; 42% African-American, 34% Latino, 20% European-American, and 4% other ethnic/racial backgrounds) and prospectively
predicted trajectories from risk and protective factors before and after controlling for time spent in a supervised setting.
Results indicated that supervised time suppressed age-related growth in substance use. Trajectories of offenders with no supervised
time and low levels of supervised time increased in substance use across age, whereas offenders with high levels of supervised
time showed no growth. Almost all risk and protective factors had effects on initial substance use but only adolescent history
of substance use, impulse control, and psychosocial maturity had an effect on change in substance use over time. Findings
highlight the importance of formal sanctions and interventions superimposed on normal developmental processes in understanding
trajectories of substance use among serious juvenile offenders.

This investigation examined the precursors of adolescents’ participation in sport and music activities in the United States
by testing a developmental model across 7 years. Data were drawn from youth questionnaires in the Childhood and Beyond Study
(92% European American; N = 594). Findings suggest that patterns of participation across a 3-year period in elementary school predict adolescents’
participation through their motivational beliefs. Specifically, children who participated in an activity, children who participated
consistently across multiple years, and children who were highly active had higher adolescent motivational beliefs 4 years
later than their peers. These motivational beliefs, in turn, positively predicted adolescents’ participation 1 year later.
Cross-domain analyses suggest that children typically maintain their orientation toward sports and music (e.g., high music-low
sport orientation, not oriented toward either domain) as they age. These findings highlight the consistency in children’s

Triangular development cooperation (TriCo) is a relatively new form of technical cooperation (expert advice), which includes, besides the traditional actors of the donor and the receiver, a third country: the new provider. At first sight, OECD donors' engagement in TriCo cannot be explained by any of the traditional explanations for aid provision. On the one hand, donors pass on their strategically favourable position to the new providers, whereas on the other hand, from a practitioners' view, TriCo is not necessarily beneficial for receiving countries. Therefore, donors' participation in TriCo constitutes a stunning puzzle of international politics. An in-depth case study assesses why Germany has recently engaged in TriCo.
