This study analyzed data collected by the U.S. Army’s Family Advocacy Program, the group primarily responsible for family
violence prevention, identification, evaluation, treatment, and follow-up on Army installations. Patterns of spouse abuse
and child abuse perpetrated within a five year period (2000–2004) were examined in a sample of 10,864 Army Soldiers who were
substantiated for family violence offenses. Three groups of family violence offenders were compared: (1) those who perpetrated
spouse offenses only; (2) those who perpetrated child offenses only; and (3) those who perpetrated both spouse and child offenses.
Results showed that the majority of substantiated family violence offenders were spouse offenders who had not committed child
abuse (61%), followed by child offenders who had not committed spouse abuse (27%), and finally those who committed both spouse
and child offenses (12%). The three groups of family violence offenders differed in terms of the types of abuse they perpetrated
(neglect of children, emotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse), their experiences of being a spouse abuse victim,
and sociodemographic characteristics. Twelve percent of all spouse abusers committed multiple spouse abuse incidents, and

The psychosocial development of 20 adolescents with congenital paralysis due to myelodysplasia is compared to 20 age- and gender-matched subjects with no physical handicap. On many of the measures the myelodysplasia group showed poorer adjustment and lower self-esteem than the controls. Consistent with hypotheses regarding adjustment during adolescence the paralyzed males did show greater concern on Offer's scales of Body and Self-Image and External Mastery and showed poorer adjustment on his Sexual Attitudes Scale. The paralyzed girls, particularly those 13 years or younger, showed the poorest emotional adjustment with a significant variability in responses on many of the tests. This degree of variability may indicate a lack of integration of self-concepts and is consistent with an emotional immaturity discordant with advanced physiologic maturation of these girls.This study was supported in part by the National Foundation-March of Dimes.Received her Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1959. As part of their work, forensic document examiners examine word processed letters. The purpose of this study, the first of its kind, was to determine how common or rare certain features are in word-processed business letters and if any of these features could determine the author or source. Initially, 114 original business letters were obtained that were dated from 1999 through 2003. Specific features of the letters were selected for examination. These features were letter format, type style, the point size of the font, margin spacing to ascertain the use or nonuse of the default margins for Word (1.25 in. nonjustified) and the default margins for WordPerfect (1 in. nonjustified). In addition, the research involved the examination of the right margins to determine if they were justified or not and the use of the comma or colon in the salutation of the letter. The features of each letter were independently examined by the authors and the findings documented. As expected, several features were found to be very common. For example,full block format was used on 48% of the letters followed by the semi-block with 39%. The Times Family of fonts was used on 67% of the letters. Font point size 12 was the most popular with 70%. The nonjustified default margins were widespread with 67% and the colon was the overwhelming favorite in the salutation with 79%. Routine STR-typing of 10,293 buccal swabs using different multiplex kits presented discordant D8S1179 profiles in four cases. Sequencing analysis identified a G-to-A transition upstream to the repeat, and an A-to-T transversion and a G-to-A transition downstream to the repeat. In the fourth case a four-base pair deletion downstream resulted in altered genotypes using different primer pairs. Current searching algorithms of the German DNA database are not capable of matching profiles that are divergent in only one STR-locus. Thus, to accommodate matching requirements and to avoid errors in individual genetic characterization for D8S1179, as described here, it is suggested that alternative primer pairs be used for routine genotyping as a matter of course. 相似文献

Over the last 25 years, Canadian women have made significant inroads to the academy as students, faculty, and administrators. Their contribution is reflected in curriculum that now addresses women and through the development of undergraduate and graduate programs in women's studies. Above all, certain aspects of women's work in the academy have challenged masculinist notions of research methodology and pedagogy. In spite of these gains and contributions, women largely remain in the “A” ranks in academe—assistant, associate, acting. This article argues, and demonstrates through personal accounts, that current definitions of scholarship, widely held in the academy, prevent the advancement of women precisely because some feminist models of research and pedagogy present a challenge to academic hierarchy. Hence, the new equity challenge facing academic women is found in definitions of scholarship used for evaluation in tenure and promotion cases. 相似文献
