Fabricius and Braver argue that nonresident fathers incur appreciable visitation expenses and that their child support obligations should be reduced accordingly. To assess whether fathers incur "appreciable" expenses requires data from mothers and fathers on expenditures in dollar terms rather than data from college students on items kept in the nonresident father's house. The Fabricius and Braver data also overstate the degree to which all divorced fathers do anything for their children. Representative data indicate that father visitation declines substantially over time. Father's postdivorce, post–child support standard of living remains twice that of mothers and children. Two subjects often fit with difficulty in 'Fortress Europe': Equality and Third Country Nationals (TCNs). EC Law presents fundamental weaknesses with regard to TCNs in the intersections between race, religion and nationality discrimination. In particular for non-EU nationals, these three grounds of discrimination can be closely related, and difficult to distinguish. However, they are of great importance for the integration and fair treatment of migrants, which was one of the objectives of the Tampere Programme. This article analyses the extent to which the Race Equality Directive (43/2000/EC) and the Framework Equality Directive (78/2000/EC) provide an effective protection against 'racial related discrimination'. It suggests that the loopholes of both Directives, together with the current interpretation of Article 12 EC, have institutionalised not only a hierarchy of equalities, but also a hierarchy of peoples, and it explores possible interpretative solutions. 相似文献

In this paper, I contribute to the ongoing conversation in New Political Science regarding the status of political science in general, and political theory in particular. I argue that the quest for certainty and desire to quantify knowledge has not been limited to empiricist political scientists. The emphasis on quantification and deductive logic is found in many places within the political theory tradition itself. Time and again, mathematics and the physical sciences are held up as the model for all knowledge. I argue that this focus has led theorists to distance themselves from politics, either out of despair or disdain for the ambiguity and variability present in political life. While I do not propose that Aristotle provides a magic remedy for the current problems in the discipline, I suggest that his combined interest in logic and the close examination of material detail provides a perennially viable framework for political theory. 相似文献

An estimated 1.6 million youth run away from home each year. While on the run, these youth are vulnerable to exploitation,
victimization, increased dangers and perpetration of criminal behavior. Runaway and homeless youth are far more likely to
engage in substance use and delinquent behavior, drop out of school and suffer from sexually transmitted diseases and mental
illness at greater rates than the norm. Timely and direct intervention in runaway and throwaway cases is imperative to protect
youth from the high risks of living on the streets. National Safe Place is an outreach and prevention program that is uniquely
designed to provide immediate safety and access to services for any youth in need. In partnership with over 360 youth serving
agencies and over 10,000 businesses and community organizations across the United States, the Safe Place program educates
youth about alternatives to running away and homelessness and provides easily accessible links to service providers. Ongoing
data collection indicates that National Safe Place has been successful in reaching endangered youth at risk of abuse, neglect
or serious family problems but that expanded program models remain needed. The challenges and successes of current programming
