The Advanced Technology Program (ATP) collected a unique source of data from highly innovative firms beginning in 1993. These
data follow the OECD’s guidelines for collecting innovation data and provide important insights for understanding the innovation
process within firms. Although the data are not representative of the population of firms, there is sufficient number of firms
in the dataset to test hypotheses and to provide a starting point for calls for innovation metrics. Because of the confidential
nature of the data, ATP worked with the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) to create a Data Enclave so that researchers
could remotely access the ATP data in a secure environment. To initiate the use of ATP data in the Data Enclave, the ATP program
funded researchers to undertake research projects that use ATP data. Other organizations have joined the Data Enclave, including
the Department of Agriculture and the Kauffman Foundation.

Secondary school is a vulnerable time where stagnation or declines in classroom behavioral engagement occur for many students, and peer relationships take on a heightened significance. We examined the implications of adolescents’ perceptions of relatedness with classroom peers for their academic learning. Participants were 1084 adolescents (53% female) in 65 middle and high school classrooms. Multilevel cross-lagged path analyses found that adolescents’ perceived relatedness with classroom peers subsequently predicted their increased self-reported behavioral engagement in that classroom from fall to winter and again from winter to spring. Higher engagement in spring predicted higher end of year objective achievement test scores after statistical control of prior year test scores. Implications are discussed for increasing classroom peer relatedness to enhance adolescents’ achievement. 相似文献

Since youth work is a relatively new career path, there is debate regarding the competencies necessary to advance overall professional practice. This debate is particularly relevant in African countries, such as Kenya, with a growing number of youth in need of assistance. The purpose of this study was to identify the competencies needed to meet the goals and challenges of Kenyan youth workers, and assess whether these competencies align with prominent youth development competency frameworks. Data were collected from Kenyan youth workers related to the challenges, goals, and barriers they faced. These data were matched to two competency frameworks. Four themes emerged: (1) programs management competencies are most important; (2) holistically developed youth is a primary goal; (3) differences exist in how competency frameworks map to Kenyan youth workers; and (4) all competencies are not equal in the view of youth workers. An understanding of the timing of firm response to changes in corporate tax law is vital for accurately estimating the revenue impact of pending corporate tax legislation. Unfortunately, the literature does not contain any standard references describing the actual responses of firms to tax law changes. The recent adoption of California's Manufacturer's Investment Credit provides a unique opportunity to study how corporations adjust their tax payments in response to changes in tax law. For background, it is shown that even in the absence of law changes many corporations overpay on their estimated taxes, perhaps because of transactions costs or agency problems. Analysis of corporate tax payments indicates that taxpayers did adjust their estimated tax payments in response to the introduction of California's MIC, but that their response fell short of the response predicted by the zero transactions cost, perfect information model of the firm. Furthermore, firms whose MIC credit was large relative to their pre-MIC tax liability were less adept at adjusting to the law change than were firms for whom the MIC was relatively less important. As a result, the revenue loss to the State of California for 1995 tax year MIC credits is estimated to be spread out over four fiscal years. 相似文献
