Arab Nationalism and the Arab Union of 1958

The late 1950s was a turbulent period in the history of Arab nationalism. It saw the birth and demise of unity states (the United Arab Republic and the Arab Union), civil war, revolution and Western intervention. Despite its short five-month lifespan, the Iraqi–Jordanian Hashemite Arab Union contributed to the intensification of the traditional Egyptian–Iraqi rivalry, the overthrow of the Iraqi monarchy in 1958 and the American intervention in Lebanon the same year. It was the result of Arab nationalism, lingering British imperial dreams, the East–West conflict, economic considerations and an inter-Arab cold war. The Arab Union had obvious advantages over the United Arab Republic. Two such advantages were the greater number of cabinet posts granted to Jordan by the Arab Union than were granted to Syria by the United Arab Republic, and the fact that Amman retained its status as capital (one of two union capitals), whereas Damascus was downgraded to the status of provincial capital. These advantages, however, failed to prevent the premature demise of the union, which was caused by a combination of negative domestic and regional perceptions, economic constraint and military commitments.

An evaluation of EU regional policy. Do structural actions crowd out public spending?

Motivated by the lack of success of previous studies trying to estimate the impact of the European Cohesion Policy, this paper brings an unexplored issue to light: transfers that are intended to finance public investment in key areas for growth might be crowded-out by subsidized governments to alternative uses. In fact, using annual data from fifteen member countries (1993–2005), we conclude that public investment in the member countries makes up around 60% of the increase in EU funds. The limited role of the European Commission in the allocation of the Funds could partially explain this result.     

大学生拖沓行为与情绪紧张度的关系研究

拖沓行为是经常被人忽视而又常见的一种行为,为了探讨大学生拖沓行为与情绪紧张度的关系,运用唤起性拖延问卷、回避性拖延问卷和情绪紧张度问卷对安徽、河南、湖北的232名大学生进行研究,结果显示:男女性别对拖延影响不显著(P0.05)。唤起性拖延、回避性拖延均与情绪紧张度之间呈显著相关,而回避性拖延与情绪紧张度之间的相关系数稍高。其中,唤起性拖延与情绪紧张度之间的相关系数为0.290(P0.01),回避性拖延与情绪紧张度之间的相关系数为0.356(P0.01)。     

对《婚姻法解释(三)》第7条立法技术的评判——兼议与《婚姻法解释(二)》第22条的衔接

父母为子女所购置的房屋的归属成为离婚双方关注的重点。在保护父母利益之意图下,《婚姻法解释(三)》第7条将"产权登记主体"与"明确表示赠与一方"进行链接。然而该条规定在立法技术方面存在严重的问题,如将规制对象改为"不动产"将造成与《婚姻法解释(二)》第22条衔接困难,"出资"范围不明确造成适用上的困难,"按份共有"不符合我国共有制度以及夫妻财产制度,等等。     

股东直索责任性质的博弈解析

我国《公司法》第20条与第64条对股东直索责任采“连带责任”提法，但对究竞为何种连带责任却语焉不详，由此形成学界争议。直索责任的性质问题在本质上是共同连带责任与主从连带责任的制度抉择，是法律对于选择权的不同配置。在由两种责任方式所构建的不同博弈模型中，可观测到债权人与股东各自如何作出不同的行动决策并进而导致何种结果，从而得出共同连带责任的制度安排更为切合制度目标的结论。     

西部少数民族地区贫困大学生就业状况研究

高等教育的快速发展,使许多偏远贫困地区的少数民族学生走出大山,鲤鱼跃龙门的同时,也使高校出现了一个特殊的贫困生群体。随着绝对数量的逐年增加,这一群体在生活上、心理上的贫困受到关注的同时,就业问题更是关系到方方面面。西部少数民族地区贫困大学生就业有其特殊性和复杂性,处理不好导致的社会影响不可忽视,更需要政府、社会以及学校从多角度出发促进和提高少数民族贫困生的就业能力和就业率。     

《两匹马的对话》与英国“公众舆论”的形成

哈贝马斯指出作为政治公共领域前身的文学公共领域孕育于英国共和时期的咖啡馆中。在这一领域形成的过程中,作为文学公共领域的重要功能之一的文学"公共舆论"功能是在当时文学家的推动下建构而成。围绕关停英国咖啡馆这一历史事件,英国文学家也展开了一场通过文学作品干预"公共事务"的"演习",其中安德鲁.马维尔的《两匹马的对话》一诗是文学公共领域践行"公共舆论"功能的典型个案。     

论我国公民体育权利与法律制度保障

现代社会公民的体育权利是一项基本人权,体育权利的实现需要建立较为完善和实操性强的体育法律制度。体育权利内容和我国现行体育法律及制度应加强体育法规的宣传;出台与《体育法》配套的法规政策;逐步确立＂体育权利本位＂的理念,才能防止体育权力对体育权益的剥夺和侵害,维护公民实际享有体育权利。
