We introduce experimental research design to the study of policy diffusion in order to better understand how political ideology affects policymakers’ willingness to learn from one another's experiences. Our two experiments–embedded in national surveys of U.S. municipal officials–expose local policymakers to vignettes describing the zoning and home foreclosure policies of other cities, offering opportunities to learn more. We find that: (1) policymakers who are ideologically predisposed against the described policy are relatively unwilling to learn from others, but (2) such ideological biases can be overcome with an emphasis on the policy's success or on its adoption by co‐partisans in other communities. We also find a similar partisan‐based bias among traditional ideological supporters, who are less willing to learn from those in the opposing party. Relatively little is known about rural women's intimate violence experiences in comparison to urban women's experiences, partly because of the difficulty in accessing rural women. This pilot study used a protective order sample of 23 women (15 urban and 8 rural), which provides an access point that is relatively similar for comparisons across rural and urban areas. The number of participants is low and, therefore, results are preliminary. However, several significant findings emerged. Rural women reported significantly less social support, less education, less income, more physical abuse in the preceding year, more childhood physical and sexual abuse, and worse overall health and mental health, as well as encountering abuse earlier in the relationship. Both groups reported higher rates of illegal drug and cigarette use than those among the general population. The findings highlight some overall important themes in examining rural and urban intimate violence victims by suggesting that rural and urban intimate violence victims have different victimization experiences and service needs. With the aim of investigating factors affecting willingness to pay for municipality child care, a survey was undertaken in
Sweden of 1840 parents living in five municipalities of different sizes. On the basis of the greed-efficiency-fairness hypothesis
(Wilke, 1991) which is supported by results from experimental social dilemma research, it was hypothesized that perceived
fairness of how the quality of child care is distributed (equal, proportional to need, or proportional to payment) as well
as of method of payment (collectively by taxes or proportional to use by fees) would be important determinants of willingness
to pay. Results showed that perceived fairness of how quality of child care is distributed played some role but that other
factors had stronger effects. Perhaps also reflecting fairness considerations, willingness to pay by fees was on average higher
than willingness to pay by taxes. Predicted from previous research, willingness to pay by taxes was furthermore found to increase
with income and degree of use. However, willingness to pay by taxes showed an increase rather than the predicted decrease
