The assurance problem in a laboratory market

Location and other correlates of campus crime

Crime and security are major issues on a number of college campuses in the United States, yet little criminology research has been aimed at the campus setting. This article explores whixh aspects of the campus profile seem to contribute, or at least relate, to high levels of campus crime. A regression of crime rates on dimensions of the campus profile uncovered a number of correlates (specifically, measures of campus size and scholastic quality) in our sample of 222 colleges and universities. Somewhat surprisingly, the location of a campus—be it in an urban or a rural setting—had no impact on the level of its crime problem, though a slight influence on crime mix (proportion of crimes that are violent) was found.     

God, Mammon and Mussolini: The Ideology and Policy of the Citizens' League of South Australia, 1930–1934

Twelve months ago the suggestion that Australia needed a Dictator was received with a tolerant smile. A Mussolini might suit the Latin psychology but the Australian sentiment would not stand for one. Today a large number of persons representing every side of our civic and commercial life agree that the suggestion is a sound one. The only question is “Who is the man?‘     

Stalking Behaviors Within Domestic Violence

An examination of data from 120 male and female batterers of varied age and marital, educational, and economic status, who attended group treatment for batterers or who were charged with domestic violence from January to February 1996 in a district court setting, produced the following findings: Stalkers tended to live alone, were less likely to be married, not living with children, and used more alcohol than nonstalkers. They also tended to have had a history of prior stalking offenses and of being abused themselves. Factor analysis found three stalking groupings: one in which discrediting was the key, a second revolving around love turning to hate, and a third with violent confrontation with the ex-partner.
