A number of organizations have a mission of encouraging peace throughout the world by enhancing young people's knowledge and understanding of other countries and cultures. One strategy used to further this mission is international or intercultural exchange programs. Most evaluations of exchange programs gather data only from the direct participants who traveled to another country. But these programs have the potential to have impacts that expand beyond the direct participants—or "ripple effects." Thus, a more appropriate methodology to evaluate exchange programs is "360-degree feedback," which gathers data from multiple sources. This study uses 360-degree feedback to evaluate a youth peacebuilding and exchange program by gathering data not only from the exchange students but also from chaperones, host families, and students and teachers in the host school. ANOVA analyses finds that the program had positive impacts on the exchange students and, in many cases, even greater ripple effects on indirect participants. 相似文献

This article discusses the early stages of the Art 50 TEU process, and those aspects that relate most clearly to British constitutional law. Its overarching theme is that the Brexit process is rendered highly problematic by the lack of any coherent conception of the British Constitution. Different parties settle on interpretations of constitutional law that support their case, but often there is no determinative answer. Three broad issues are examined in order to substantiate this claim: the EU Referendum, the triggering of Article 50, and the Devolution aspect of Brexit. Creating offender typologies has become a growing interest and a potential method of improving understanding of programming needs and potential placements. Most typological research has only explored and described potential offender types. Relatively few studies have attempted to confirm the existence of created typologies or examine how offenders in each type predict important outcomes. Utilizing a large sample (N = 37,111) of reentering male offenders from Washington State Department of Corrections, we computed both an exploratory and confirmatory latent class analysis. After the confirmation of six offender types, we examined each type’s likelihood of several recidivistic outcomes. We anticipate that the described typology will assist case management, prioritizing offender needs, optimizing treatment services, and determining sequencing of multiple treatment types. 相似文献

Previous scholarship argues that House members' partisan relationship to the president is among the most important determinants of the share of federal dollars they bring home to their constituents. Do presidential politics also shape distributive outcomes in the Senate? Analyzing the allocation of more than $8.5 trillion of federal grants across the states from 1984 to 2008, we show that presidential copartisan senators are more successful than opposition party members in securing federal dollars for their home states. For over 30 years, research has shown that men can and do sustain intimate partner violence (IPV) from their female partners.
This is the first large-scale, nationally-based, quantitative study to systematically detail the helpseeking experiences of
men who have sustained IPV from their female partners. The sample is composed of 302 men who were recruited from resources
specializing in men’s issues. Results indicate that men who seek help for IPV victimization have the most positive experiences
in seeking help from family/friends, and mental health and medical providers. They have the least positive experiences with
members of the DV service system. Cumulative positive helpseeking experiences were associated with lower levels of abusing
alcohol; cumulative negative experiences were associated with higher rates of exceeding a clinical cut-off for post-traumatic
stress disorder. Results are discussed in terms of implications for the social service sector and for future research. 相似文献

Intimate partner violence continues to be prevalent, resulting in negative consequences for the individuals involved and for
society as a whole. Perceptions of safety in relationships where intimate partner violence is present is an understudied topic
in the literature. The Safety Assessment of Future Events Scale (SAFE) was developed to assess respondents’ perceptions of
safety in their intimate relationship. The purpose of this study was to examine whether group differences existed on respondents’
SAFE scores. 428 participants from community and clinic samples completed the SAFE and other measures contained in a southwest
university’s marriage and family therapy clinic intake packet. ANCOVA was used to control for gender and setting in determining
if group differences existed on the SAFE based on measures assessing interpersonal violence, relational adjustment, intrapersonal
symptoms, and PTSD symptoms. Results indicated group differences based on gender, interpersonal violence victimization, and

In west-central Alberta, Canada, an ambitious collaborative conservation program for grizzly bears began in 1999, after extensive
controversy over the Cheviot coal mine project and successful negotiation of a unique federal–provincial strategic framework
for grizzly bear conservation. Unfortunately that program was effectively terminated without any substantive implementation
of its research findings. The regional ecosystem approach for conserving grizzlies in the Foothills Model Forest originated
in federal and provincial legislative processes but proved vulnerable to shifting goals and containment by a single powerful
participant. This case study’s results demonstrate vulnerabilities of the ecosystem management approach to conserving large
carnivores. To enable other such conservation efforts to achieve their goals, we recommend supporting emergent small-scale
initiatives and designing collaborative institutions that limit the potential for containment of decision processes. 相似文献
