A program to train inmates as paralegals was established at a large state prison in the Midwest. Qualified inmates were randomly assigned to the training or to a control condition. Both groups were administered measures assessing legal knowledge, the use of legal knowledge, attitudes about the criminal justice system, and self-perceptions before and after training. The trainee group showed a significant increase in its amount of legal knowledge after training. Members of the trainee group also reported a significant increase in the number of other inmates requesting aid from them on legal problems. In addition, interviews were conducted with two random samples of the general inmate population, before and after the paralegal training program. These interviews revealed strong support for the training program, and this support increased over the period of the program. Limited data on longer-term effectiveness of the paralegal's performance in the prison legal aid clinic and in paralegal jobs following parole supported the positive, shorter-term results. 相似文献

Several articles have been written about the relative prestige of journals in criminology and criminal justice. Almost uniformly,
however, those rankings have focused on sociology and criminology journals and have generally reflected a sociological orientation.
If criminal justice is indeed a separate discipline, such approaches are tantamount to asking psychologists to rate sociological
journals within a list of psychology journals. Our approach is first to separate respondents by their degree of identification
with criminal justice and their educational orientation. Second, we compile a list of responses to questions about prestige
and utility to practitioners across the range of criminal justice and criminology journals. Analyses of these data indicate
that there are differences in the way scholars rate journals, based on their identity with criminal justice and their educational
orientation. These differences, however, are found in specific journals and in types of journals (i.e., police, corrections,

The focus is primarily on regulations that are aimed at dealing with the consequences of imperfect information in the marketplace. The paper reviews and assesses what is known about the impact of regulations on efficiency and equity. One conclusion is that we know a fair amount about impacts of regulation on prices for mental health service and very little about effects on quality of care. The authors assert that students of the discipline must have a practical knowledge of computer applications. While it is not necessary that advanced computer engineering be studied, students should nevertheless be made familiar with the uses of the computer in administration.
