延安文艺座谈会与毛泽东革命文化思想的发展

延安文艺座谈会上,毛泽东以革命文艺为切入点,提出了文艺为工农兵服务这一革命文化发展的具体方向,以普及与提高为推动革命文化发展的基本方法,找到了文艺工作者与广大工农兵群众相结合这一发展革命文化的基本途径,使其革命文化思想得到极大发展,成为更具体的、更具可操作性的、真正体现人民大众民族、科学与民主意志的文化思想。     

Political Dimensions In Aino Kallas’s Texts

This article focuses on how the Finnish-Estonian literary author Aino Kallas (1878–1956) worked with fact and fiction in order to activate a political dimension in her works. I offer an interpretation inspired by the literary theorist Jacques Rancière, whereby the short story Bernhard Riives is discussed in terms of the creation of new political subjects. When Kallas toured the USA and Canada in 1926 she opened her recitals by giving a historical background that could explain the events of her fictive story. The interplay between fact and fiction politicized both the original story and the event of the public reading, I argue, but in ways that were out of the control of the author.

中国３０年代特殊的政治文化语境构成了特殊的文学氛围，由此形成了文学发展在总体上的政治化趋向。无论是文学群体还是作家个人，不管其主观上打出怎样的超脱政治的旗号，提出文学远离政治的主张，但在事实上这种旗号和主张都在某种意义上成了一种政治的表态，即使是向来被人们称之为“远离政治”的“京派”等作家群体也未能成为例外。     

No translator is an island: the changing dynamics of Murakami Haruki translations around the world

Abstract

Tim Parks has included Haruki Murakami among the group of authors writing ‘dull global novels’, a perception that is in part the result of an exclusive focus on English-language translations of Murakami. By turning attention to translations in other languages, this essay reveals a more nuanced and complex picture, showing that depending on where and by whom he is translated, Murakami in fact emerges differently than in English, and arguing that his writing is perhaps not so ‘dull’, after all. After briefly describing the history of Murakami translations in North America, the essay examines the history of translations in East Asia, using the example of greater China, where the two main translators, Lai Ming Chu (Taiwan) and Lin Shaohua (China), produce strikingly different versions of his writing. The essay then goes on to trace the main patterns of Murakami translation in Europe and into some Middle Eastern languages and Persian. In Europe there is a gradual shift away from indirect translations through English toward direct translations from the Japanese, and a greater degree of collaboration among translators. The essay analyzes the effects of these changes, offering a few examples from Murakami’s latest novels.

台湾日据时期现代文学期刊：对抗与规训的纠葛

在日据时期台湾现代文学的发展过程中,文学期刊为台湾作家提供了发表园地,对台湾文学的发展起到了重要的推动作用。媒体是文学的外围,是文学传播的重要环节,可以将其作为日据时期台湾现代文学的文化背景来解读。在此时期,进步媒体传播民主理念和思想,成为民主启蒙运动的载体。同时也有一些对殖民当局进行协力的文学期刊社团存在。日据时期台湾文学反殖民和追求社会进步的历程,在某种意义上可以说是媒体角力与媒体抗争史。     

Establishing an Islamic niche in Kazakhstan: Musylman Publishing House and its publications

There has been an increase in Muslim piety and practice in Kazakhstan since the fall of the Soviet Union. Much of this increase is due to the efforts of members of the piety movement in Kazakhstan, who preach and publish about Islam in an effort to inspire more Kazakhs to embrace a particular vision of Islam emphasizing daily prayer, modest dress and condemnation of saint and ancestor veneration. From its humble beginnings as a press primarily publishing translations of short books on Islam, Musylman Publishing House has grown to become an influential Islamic press in Kazakhstan. Building on observations at the Musylman Publishing House editorial office and interviews with its staff, this essay examines the history and publications of Musylman Publishing House. It is argued that the publishing strategy directed by Qayrat Isa, the owner and chief editor of Musylman Publishing House, has been a conscious effort to establish, expand and consolidate a publishing niche for the piety movement in Kazakhstan. The result of this strategy has been the establishment of a readership that no longer simply reads about Islam, but actively preaches to others and contributes articles and books to Musylman Publishing House, creating a self-sustaining piety movement.

围绕近年来学界对底层问题的不断探讨和论争,从三个方面对底层及底层文学研究情况进行梳理列举和整合.综述内容包括对底层概念的阐释;文学应该如何表述底层,即有关知识者代言问题的争辩;关于底层文学的深度挖掘和思考等.冀能描摹当前底层问题研究之大略情形,为下阶段研究作初步的资料准备.

The Baltic German politician and political thinker Paul Schiemann (1876–1944) is widely recognized as the most prominent defender of liberalism in the Baltic states during the interwar period. However, his liberal ideas have rarely been interpreted in their own right. This article explores the main presuppositions of Schiemann's liberalism: his conceptions of individual freedom, democracy, and cultural development. Although Schiemann's main intentions are liberal, his theory of the anational state includes significant Marxist elements, which call into question the potential of the democratic state. In my conclusions, I will argue that Schiemann's ideas still have theoretical relevance, which must be further explored in the context of contemporary liberal theory.     

The Problem of Soviet Colonialism in the Baltics

This essay works through some of the necessary preliminary questions in thinking about Soviet colonialism in the Baltics. It opens by tracing the prehistory of critical thinking about Soviet colonialism in the 1960s and considers why the topic of Soviet colonialism has not (or not yet) become a dominant way to understand Soviet history. The central question posed by the article is whether one can speak about the Soviet invasions of the Baltic States as ‘colonization’. It proposes that, initially, communist Russia did not in fact seek to colonize the Baltic States and instead ‘occupied’ them; however, this initial period of occupation later developed into a period of a colonial rule.
