The numberless unprecedented situations attached today to the concept of transnational diaspora arise the debate of whether or not this phenomenon signals a new era. Our own contention is that it does represent a factor of new kinds of heterogenization of both the societal reality and of the diasporas themselves, as worldwide entities. It is in this dialectic perspective that we describe transnational diasporas as causes of discontinuity in our world and point out to the qualitative change in the social fabrics that they represent. Among other aspects, dual or threefold homeness that is bound to the transnational condition signifies for diasporans a slipping away from the totalistic character of the commitment and view of the nation that the nation-state requires of its citizens. When viewed in its multiplicity, the cohabitation under the same societal roof of a priori alien socio-cultural entities yields a configuration that is not uniform in every setting, but which still responds in its essentials to the new reality experienced by many a contemporary society. To illustrate this approach, this paper compares four well-known contemporary transnational diasporas namely, the Muslim, African, Hispanic and Chinese. 相似文献

《消除对妇女一切形式歧视公约》是我国最早签署的由联合国大会通过的核心国际人权公约。1980年7月我国就签署了这一公约,《公约》于一年后的9月对我国正式生效。该公约在我国的生效时长已经超过了30年,对我国妇女保障体制的发展产生了很大的推动作用。但同时,《公约》的国内实施还面临着很多的挑战,这些困难和挑战在联合国妇女权利委员会定期审议的相关文件中可见一斑。 相似文献

Feminist scholars in recent years have argued that both sexism and homophobia are forces that maintain traditional gender roles and inequality in society. Further, these scholars suggest that sexism cannot be eradicated without addressing homophobia simultaneously. Building on such arguments, I examine how the National Organization for Women (NOW), as a case study of feminism in the US, understood the relationship between sexism and homophobia by conducting a qualitative content analysis of the organization's national newsletters from 1968 to 2000. I find that NOW did not address this relationship sufficiently; rather, NOW justified its work against homophobia in ways that are distinct from a relationship to gender. 相似文献

Ideas about what constitutes the canon of Modern Japanese Literature have been greatly influenced in the West by English-language translations. This article explores the gendering of the canon through an analysis of the numbers of works by men and women translated in the five major anthologies of modern Japanese literature. It emerges that there is a significant neglect of translation of the works of women from 1868-1945, thus creating an impression in the West that women did not make a significant contribution to Japanese literature prior to the Second World War. The gendering of the canon is explored further in an analysis of the ways in which writing by Japanese women is marginalized and stereotyped in the West. It concludes with a survey of the impact that anthologies of writing by Japanese women in English-language translation have had on re-shaping perceptions of the canon of modern Japanese literature in the West. 相似文献

This article deals with Japanese women and employment in the years during and immediately following the Allied Occupation (1945 to 1952). Through the use of public opinion polls conducted by the Prime Minister's Office, women's attitudes towards employment will be diagrammed within the context of larger emergent employment patterns. It will argue that although external influences and institutions circumscribed female employment activities, women themselves structured their participation in the labour force to reflect a set of priorities, concerns and ideals grounded in a traditionalistic conception of domesticity and motherhood. First, it addresses external factors that at once moulded women's motivations to seek employment while obstructing the emergence of female career-consciousness. Second, it looks at 'internal' reasons (women's self-perceptions and ideals) influencing the lesser normative priority assigned by women to the notion of female employment. In balancing statistical data with anecdotal evidence, and by contextualising the contemporary picture with references to both pre-war influences and post-Occupation developments, this article will interpret the Occupation not in terms of its elite actors, but through the attitudes of everyday women whose influence in the reconstruction of Japan was dynamic and profound. 相似文献

This article is an assessment of the Shin Fujin Kyōkai (the Association of New Women), a women's political organization founded by the leading Japanese feminists Hiratsuka Raichō, Ichikawa Fusae and Oku Mumeo in 1919. It surveys the main objectives, activities and membership of the Association. The contents and characteristics of its magazine, Josei Dōmei (Women's League), will be also investigated. The article explores how the political and social climate of its period contributed to the foundation of the Association and how it was greeted by the public and press. The tactics, strategy and development of the Association's parliamentary campaigning and lobbying will be discussed together with the Association's limitations and its achievements in bettering the social, political and legal position of women. This article compares the Association with the Seitō Society, and also makes further comparisons between the Association and other contemporary Japanese and Western women's associations. It evaluates the impact the Association's activities had both on society and on the women's movement, and finally assesses the Association's key role in the history of the Japanese women's movement. 相似文献

This article discusses the main findings of the Equality and Human Rights Commission's 2009 inquiry into unequal pay and sex discrimination in the financial services sector and the Treasury Select Committee's 2010 report ‘Women in the City’, which examined the under-representation of women directors, with reference to literature on organizational culture and women's career progression. The article considers whether a masculine workplace culture exists in the financial sector (and more generally) and what effect it can have on women's career choices and opportunities for promotion. Under-representation occurs because many women are either choosing not to apply for directorships of FTSE 100 companies or being overlooked. The article considers the current legal framework in relation to sex discrimination and flexible working and whether the changes made by the Equality Act 2010 go far enough. Policy options to improve the current situation are considered, with particular focus on the possibility of quotas for women directors and other measures to address under-representation. 相似文献
