Gender and the State in Rural Chile

Abstract — This paper focuses on SERNAM, the state institution responsible for the incorporation of gender into public policy in Chile, and the actions taken by the state to benefit women employed in the modern agricultural sector. It charts the emergence of the demands for such an institution by the women's movement, and the creation of SERNAM as an integral part of the transition to democracy. In particular, the paper analyses the Programme for the Children of the Temporeras , which is a unique state-led initiative to provide childcare facilities to enable women to enter the seasonal labour market during the summer months. The paper explores the complex relations between gender, the state, capitalist agriculture and patriarchal structures, with the aim of highlighting the sometimes unexpected convergence of interests, and the points of conflict.     

Animal rights is a social justice issue

The literature on social justice, and social justice movements themselves, routinely ignore nonhuman animals as legitimate subjects of social justice. Yet, as with other social justice movements, the contemporary animal liberation movement has as its focus the elimination of institutional and systemic domination and oppression. In this paper, I explicate the philosophical and theoretical foundations of the contemporary animal rights movement, and situate it within the framework of social justice. I argue that those committed to social justice – to minimizing violence, exploitation, domination, objectification, and oppression – are equally obligated to consider the interests of all sentient beings, not only those of human beings.     

19世纪末爪哇鸦片税收专卖承包制研究

鸦片税收专卖承包制一度被认为是华侨剥削印尼人民的罪证,19世纪末爪哇社会出现反鸦片风潮,殖民政府借机以鸦片公营专卖局取代了鸦片税收专卖承包制。本文作者指出,以公营代替私营,殖民者的最终目的在于从华侨手中夺过经济大权以获取更高的利润,华侨始终不过是荷兰殖民统治的工具。     

论破解“三农”问题力量的转变时期

农民收入增长率较低是当前和今后一段时间内我国“三农”问题的焦点。从农民收入增长率、1997年后农民第一、二、三产业纯收入增加额占农民每年纯收入增加额的比重、城镇居民购买8种重要农产品和人均可支配收入的变动对农民收入的影响、两个比重首次低于50%和一个比重首次超过50%的变动、日本和韩国的发展经验结合我国的实际等多方面综合分析可见,近9年是破解我国“三农”问题的力量的转变时期:即农业的发展由主要依靠农业的内生力量转变到内生力量和外生力量相结合共同促进农业发展。     

提高中国农业国际竞争力的对策

面对我国加入世界贸易组织的新形势,我们应该以提高农业科技水平,发挥农业比较优势,培育和壮大市场竞争主体为对策,提高我国农业国际竞争力。     

提高欠发达地区农业产业化经营水平解读——陕西省渭南市农业产业化经营水平实证分析

农业产业化经营自然而然地、有机地将稳定家庭承包经营、改革经营方式和管理体制、发展市场经济和现代化农业融于一个历史进程。渭南市农业产业化经营尚处于起步阶段,各类农业产业化组织辐射面还不够广,带动农户能力也还比较弱。应依靠市场信号来组织生产经营,把增加农民收入作为发展农业产业化的基本出发点和落脚点,加快新产品的产业化开发进程,改善农村、农业基础设施薄弱的现状,彻底改造和提升传统农业和农村经济结构,推行生态和清洁生产模式,推广农业质量标准和技术规范,引导农民大力发展适销对路的新、优、特农产品,发展无公害产品、绿色食品和有机食品,实现经济效益、生态效益和社会效益的统一。     

大连农业现代化,结构调整是关键

近三年来，全国各地认真贯彻关于党中央对我国农业和农村经济结构进行战略性调整的重大决 策，农业结构调整初见成效。大连市的农业结构调整也取得了很大进展，但仍需在形成规模、规划布 局、可持续发展、科教兴农等几个方面继续努力，以推进大连市农业率先实现现代化。     

WTO框架内的长春农业发展

中国加入WTO，使长春市农业的未来发展被置于WTO的整体框架之中。在新的条件下我们要审时度势，按照WTO的基本规则，积极凋整长春市农业发展政策，把粮食生产作为农业保护的重点；把大力发展具有比较优势的农产品作为农业结构调整的重点；充分利用WTO规则的国内支持空间；充分利用WTO规则内的“绿盒”政策措施；利用资源优势，培育新的经济增长点。这一系列措施是长春市农业未来发展的重要保证。     

Histological age prediction from the femur in a contemporary Dutch sample. The decrease of nonremodeled bone in the anterior cortex

This paper presents an uncomplicated and minimally invasive method for age-at-death determination in a contemporary Dutch (West European) population, by modifying the approach of assessment based on the age-related remodeling of bone tissue. In contrast to the usual "osteon count," a "non-remodeled tissue count" is undertaken. To optimize the method, proper zeroing of the polarization filter set of the microscope is essential. Instructions for setting the filters are given. A sample of femoral shaft segments totaling 162 individuals with ages ranging from 15 to 96 years is analyzed. Subperiosteal quantitative assessments are recorded at the most anterior point of the femoral shaft and also at points 25 degrees to the left and to the right of that point. Interobserver agreement in the assessments shows an acceptable degree of correlation. Bone remodeling with age does not progress in a linear, but in a curvilinear manner. Dependence of predicted age on nonremodeled surface counts in the analyzed areas of the anterior cortex of the femur appears to be significant. A set of regression equations is given. Sex can be ignored in age prediction. The small but statistically significant dependence of predicted age on cadaver length corresponds with the present strong secular increase in stature in the Netherlands. A concise catalogue with micrograph examples for every 10-year period in life is available upon request.     

第三法域之"三农问题"论纲

"三农问题"首先是一个政治问题,但从法治社会角度而言,"三农问题"同时是一个法律问题,而且是一个社会法问题.私法仅就农民利益问题寻求救济,而国家行为对市民社会亦难以作为,故"三农问题"由于牵涉到社会整体利益,应归于第三法域--社会法调整范畴.以社会法视角,可从降低农业人口、农村城市化和农民教育三方面,审视我国当前"三农问题".
