Three species of insects collected from an adult human corpse above 3300 m in elevation: a review of a case from Colorado

We report on the colonization of an adult human corpse by three insect species at 3350 m (11,000 ft) in elevation. The adult silphid Thanatophilus coloradensis (Wickham), adults of the blow fly Calliphora coloradensis (Hough), and larvae and adults of Lucilia silvarum (Meigen) were all collected from the victim's body which had been wrapped in plastic. The victim was found in late June in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. This paper provides additional confirmation of the taxa utilizing a human corpse at high elevations in Colorado.     

A Meta-Analytic Review of the Effects of High Stress on Eyewitness Memory

In the past 30 years researchers have examined the impact of heightened stress on the fidelity of eyewitness memory. Meta-analyses were conducted on 27 independent tests of the effects of heightened stress on eyewitness identification of the perpetrator or target person and separately on 36 tests of eyewitness recall of details associated with the crime. There was considerable support for the hypothesis that high levels of stress negatively impact both types of eyewitness memory. Meta-analytic Z-scores, whether unweighted or weighted by sample size, ranged from –5.40 to –6.44 (high stress condition–low stress condition). The overall effect sizes were –.31 for both proportion of correct identifications and accuracy of eyewitness recall. Effect sizes were notably larger for target-present than for target-absent lineups, for eyewitness identification studies than for face recognition studies and for eyewitness studies employing a staged crime than for eyewitness studies employing other means to induce stress.

本文采用回归方法,分析了台商投资大陆的传统产业和高技术产业与区位选择的关系。通过研究发现:无论传统产业还是高技术产业,在市场因素、劳动力因素、投资环境、集聚因素等方面都呈现出不同的偏好和诸多共同的特征。在未来的区域分布上,高技术产业由于受集聚经济的影响很大,其扩散效应将不明显,而传统产业受劳动力因素的制约和受当地市场的吸引,将逐步青睐中西部的配套环境较好的地区。

"高薪养廉"不能离开外在条件去讨论可行还是不可行,"高薪养廉"要营造一个良好的外部环境,就必须构建有利于"高薪养廉"的环境保障系统,只有组成这个环境保护系统的所有条件,在一个国度、一个社会中同时存在,高薪养廉才是切实可行的.

抢劫银行:高成功率的职业犯罪

近几年 ,抢劫银行犯罪较为突出 ,数量增多 ,性质恶化。本文通过对最近几年发生的 2 2起抢劫银行案件的研究发现 :抢劫银行犯罪是当前一类高成功率的暴力犯罪 ,原因在于犯罪人日趋职业化 ,涉暴武器的泛滥和银行自身防范不足等。为此 ,笔者认为 ,应采取有效措施对这种犯罪进行防范。     

The Adolescent Society Revisited: Cultures, Crowds, Climates, and Status Structures in Seven Secondary Schools

The authors used data from seven schools in a metropolitan region to explore continuity and change in adolescent cultures and status structures; they identified six major types of status structures and explained variation among them in terms of characteristics of communities and schools. A key feature of the study is comparison of school climates, using both survey data and qualitative case studies that provide an interpretive context for the survey responses; this methodology allows a contextual level of analysis that is unavailable in either single-school ethnographies or large data sets that aggregate responses from individuals situated in many schools.Roberta Garner is Professor of Sociology at DePaul University. 实践教学是法学高等教育必不可少的重要教学环节。随着社会对法律人才需求日趋复合化,要求各培养单位对法学高等教育实践教学进行适时改革,以适应人才培养需要。本文对法学专业实践教学改革提出了一些探索性见解!     

Character Strengths Among Youth

Four hundred and fiftynine students from 20 different high school classrooms in Michigan participated in focus group discussions about the character strengths included in the Values in Action Classification. Students were interested in the subject of good character and able to discuss with candor and sophistication instances of each strength. They were especially drawn to the positive traits of leadership, practical intelligence, wisdom, social intelligence, love of learning, spirituality, and the capacity to love and be loved. Students believed that strengths were largely acquired rather than innate and that these strengths developed through ongoing life experience as opposed to formal instruction. They cited an almost complete lack of contemporary role models exemplifying different strengths of character. Implications of these findings for the quantitative assessment of positive traits were discussed, as were implications for designing character education programs for adolescents. We suggest that peers can be an especially important force in encouraging the development and display of good character among youth.
