Abstract Utilizing a predictive model of voter behavior, this study identified the motivations behind a sample of voters who cast a ballot for George W. Bush and AI Gore in the 2000 presidential campaign. The motivations of the voters were differentiated on the basis of the “value” they sought in a president. In other words, just as companies in the “commercial marketplace” have to create value to attract customers, so does a candidate in the “political marketplace” who is seeking to carve out a niche for himself that separates him from his competition. Pairwise discriminant analysis is used to identify the motivations behind the choice behavior of voters at both the candidate and party level. The results reveal the complimentary roles that the political party and each candidate's campaign organization played in their respective marketing strategies. 相似文献

ABSTRACT We examine the use of indirection in the three televised debates between George Bush and Al Gore during the 2000 American presidential race. Indirection is a discursive process that enables a speaker to perform a nonliteral “primary” speech act by performing a literal “secondary” speech act. Eight mechanisms of indirection are characterized and explained using examples from the debates. Their occurrence in the debates is also analyzed. The indirection used most often saw the speaker promising to perform an action by expressing his intention to do so. A comparison is made between the American debates and Canadian and Quebec debates. Also questioned is the persuasive effect of indirection in political communication and its potential for strategists and for future research in light of the presented results. 相似文献

目的观察基质金属蛋白酶2(mmp-2)在实验性小鼠支气管哮喘死亡模型主支气管上皮的表达规律。方法 6~8周雄性健康小鼠30只,随机取20只建立哮喘死亡模型(B组),10只为空白对照组(A组)。提取小鼠死后主支气管组织,经HE和免疫组化染色(SP法)后,用图像分析系统分别观测并测量小鼠支气管软骨厚度和黏膜固有层厚度比值(LCR),并用免疫蛋白印记法(Western blot)检测主支气管上皮mmp-2。实验所得数据用SPSS 11.0统计学软件进行分析。结果 B组主支气管LCR 1~3周内逐渐上升,mmp-2免疫组化阳性染色平均光密度值(MOD)逐渐升高、灰度值亦升高,与A组比较,两组数据差异均具有显著性意义(P<0.01)。结论 LCR可反映气道壁的增厚和间质纤维化,并结合mmp-2灰度值增高变化,可望成为诊断哮喘猝死的辅助指标之一。 相似文献

目的探讨原发性肝癌患者复发的危险因素及与中医体质的关系,为预测和预防肝癌的复发提供依据。方法总结2009年1—12月上海长海医院中医科、介入科收治的109例原发性肝癌术后患者的临床特征,并分析其中医体质分布规律。用单因素及多因素Cox回归分析原发性肝癌术后复发的相关影响因素。结果 Cox回归分析结果显示,截至2010年4月1日,原发性肝癌术后出现复发患者的年龄、临床分期、肝功能分级、既往饮酒史与未出现复发患者相比较,差异具有统计学意义(P0.05)。年龄、临床分期、乙型病毒性肝炎病史、阳虚质、血瘀质进行入Cox回归模型。结论年龄、临床分期、乙型病毒性肝炎病史、既往饮酒史是原发性肝癌术后复发的危险因素,阳虚质、血瘀质得分越高的患者,术后出现复发的时间越短。 相似文献

We offer a theory to identify the determinants of presidential campaign rhetoric related to the federal budget. The theory builds on the literature dealing with issue ownership, candidate strategy, retrospective voting, and voter preferences to generate eight hypotheses about the use of budget rhetoric. To test these hypotheses, over 800 campaign speeches from the major party presidential nominees from 1952 to 2000 are content analyzed. The content analysis generates measures of both the volume and tone of budget rhetoric. Volume is driven primarily by the objective balance of the budget and subjective importance given to it by voters and a conditional effect involving budget balance, incumbency, and partisanship. Tone is more complex, with positive rhetoric determined mostly by the budget balance and partisanship and overstated rhetoric shaped solely by the salience of the budget to the electorate. The article concludes with suggestions for future research. 相似文献
