当前,边境地区因经济活动的快速发展而导致了非法出入边境活动的急增。非法出入边境活动的原因复杂,手段多样,特征明显。对此,应在加大宣传的基础上加强活动防控,开展专项斗争,同时加强相关领域的国际合作。     

The mental health association and prevention

Summary

The history of the Mental Health Association's involvement in prevention is described. From its inception in 1909 the Association has played a key role in advocating for prevention. It contributed to the Child Guidance Center movement, the community mental health center movement, and helped focus the 1978 President's Commission on Mental Health on prevention. In recent years, it has served as the catalyst for the formation of a coalition of national organizations with an interest in prevention.     

Culture,Peers, and Delinquency

SUMMARY

A community-peer model of delinquency shows how family, school, and neighborhood variables affect adolescent peers groups, which then affect the likelihood of juvenile delinquency. The findings on culture and gender presented in the studies in this volume are discussed in relation to this model. Overall, the findings support the communitypeer model for males across the various cultural groups. Incarcerated females, however, attributed their delinquency more to family than to peers. Additional research is needed to clarify this difference. Implications for assessment, prevention, and intervention are discussed.     

The 'break enter and die' syndrome may involve significant injury to major neck vessels

Death from incised wounds of major vessels may occur during illegal entry of premises. Wounds are often relatively unimpressive having been caused by thin shards of glass. Alcohol and/or drugs have often been taken that have impaired coordination and contributed to a failure to take appropriate action. A 37-year-old man slipped and fell while attempting to enter a house through a window that he had just broken. He was found dead surrounded by a large amount of blood. At autopsy, a single horizontal, deeply incised wound of the anterior neck was present with transection of the internal jugular veins bilaterally and the right common carotid artery. Toxicological studies were negative for alcohol and common drugs. Death was due to exsanguination and air embolism. This case demonstrates that the injuries sustained during such activities may be quite extensive and involve major neck vessels. Alcohol and drug intoxication are not necessarily involved.

Exploring,Maintaining, and Disengaging—The Three Phases of a Legislator's Life

Building on the understanding that a career is a dynamic concept, this article applies the idea that parliamentarians' legislative activities vary according to their career stage and age. This is partly a function of experience and partly a function of future career prospects. Using a new data set of the German Bundestag (2002–13) that pinpoints the age and career stage of MPs at the time of individual activities, namely, attending votes, posing parliamentary questions, and holding rapporteurships, we identify practical and normative challenges to MPs' legislative work: It takes time to learn the trade and as the desire for re‐election dissipates, a last‐period problem arises. MPs significantly reduce their activity levels toward the end of their legislative careers, indicating a clear loss of accountability toward their parties and their constituents.     

Validation of the Acetabulum As a Skeletal Indicator of Age at Death in Modern European‐Americans,

Progressive changes in the acetabulum have been used in modern skeletal age estimation, but they have not been completely understood. If their age correlations are weakened by the influence of factors like physical activity and obesity, acetabular changes should not be used for age estimation. To investigate their utility for aging, the acetabular variables of Rissech et al. (2006) were analyzed in 409 modern European‐Americans (Bass Collection, Tennessee). Correlation tests assessed potential associations between acetabular data, osteoarthritis scores (collected per Jurmain, 1990), and documented demographic information (age, body mass index [BMI], metabolic intensity of physical activities). Acetabular changes had statistically significant, positive correlations with osteoarthritis (p < 0.001 in most joints/regions) and age (p < 0.001), indicating their degenerative nature and relevance for age estimation. Acetabular changes showed no associations with BMI or metabolic values, suggesting resistance to obesity and activity effects. These results suggest that acetabular degeneration is a valid skeletal age‐at‐death indicator.
