Men in Skirts

There are signs that the wearing of skirts by men appears to be on the increase in the West. Connor's essay provides a series of historical reflections on the signification and cultural phenomenology of male and female apparel. The first appearance of bifurcated dress in the late mediaeval period is considered, along with the struggle between men and women for command of lateral space during the seventeenth century in Europe, as attested to by commentators like John Bulwer and John Evelyn. Explications are offered of the thematics of the fringe and the pocket, as they are dramatized in trousers and skirts, as well as of the logic of lightness and of the pendant. Trousers, Connors concludes, have never lost their fanciful associations with utility, practicality and rationality; they are the signs of occupation, of being taken up in what you do, rather than consumed in what you are. The political victory of the trousered over the untrousered races (Romans, Scots, Indians etc.) is confirmed by its inversion in male masochist fantasies of 'petticoat government', from the late nineteenth century onwards.

本文对《妇女研究论丛》创刊20年来的栏目变化、刊文情况以及主题与内容进行分析,探讨中国妇女/性别研究进展。结论认为,中国妇女/性别研究经历了由浅入深、不断走向成熟的过程,学术性和实践价值都在不断增强。但仍需进一步加强妇女/性别研究的理论创新,加强有关妇女发展和性别平等的重大现实问题研究,加强妇女发展与性别平等法律与政策研究,促进中国妇女/性别学科建设。

社会性别平等不仅仅是单纯的妇女的事情及其妇女组织的事情,或某一部分人、某一个具体领域的事情,需要全社会的关注和行动,没有男性的改变和参与,不可能从根本上解决社会性别平等问题。在项目实践中如何调动男性参与的积极性、发挥男性的作用,从而推动农村社会性别发展项目的顺利开展,促进社会性别平等的实现是一个值得深入探讨的课题。

2011年6月,日本政府发表了《男女共同参与白皮书》,力求对日本男女共同参与社会的现状以及相关政策做一个全面的总结。本文通过对白皮书的解读,分析了白皮书的基本内容和特点;其中特别关注了白皮书的结构以及政府对男女参与政治领域和科技领域的现状总结和政策目标。

本文以改革开放时期妇女组织的民间外交为切入点,通过回顾妇女组织参与民间外交的过程,探讨妇女组织如何通过参与民间外交获得发展的契机、资源和空间。文章认为,随着妇女组织的发展,妇女组织民间外交的参与主体和形式呈现出多元化的特点,在此过程中,妇女组织在组织理念、资金来源、能力建设、议题拓展等方面产生了重要变化。

The Relationship Between Gender Equality and Rates of Inter- and Intra-Sexual Lethal Violence: An Exploration of Functional Form

Considerable attention has been given to the relationship between gender equality (GE) and levels of violence perpetrated by men against women in recent decades. Yet, the current state of the literature is equivocal. High levels of GE have been hypothesized to both decrease and increase men’s violence. This study proposes a theoretical account that integrates the ameliorative and backlash theses and offers a possible explanation for some of the inconsistent findings. Specifically, we argue that both ameliorative and backlash processes operate but that their relative strength and salience vary at different levels of GE. As a result of the interplay between these counter-balancing forces, the relationship between GE and levels of men’s violence men against women (and other men) is hypothesized to be curvilinear rather than linear. The results of multivariate analyses of male and female inter- and intra-sexual homicide offending offer robust support for this hypothesis.     

社会性别统计在提高政府服务职能中的应用

在政府职能适应社会发展的需求,迫切需要由管理型向服务型转变之际,社会性别统计作为一种寻求改变的工具,有潜力成为政府职能转变的技术性要素,即为服务型政府提供技术性支持,以服务于社会中的所有个体。本文强调以女权主义政治经济学的观念为导向,在基层组织日常工作的统计表格中加入社会性别统计,既可以提供分性别的统计数据,反映不同群体的利益和需求,又可为政府制定科学、有效、全面的政策提供事实依据。
