案件侦查传播经历了神秘、权威的古代传统思维到重视事实、证据的现代理念转型。与前两者均不同的是,当前媒体呈现出一个新的特征：热衷传播案件侦查消息,张扬弱势话语权利,迎合民众放松自我寻求休闲娱乐的心理,改变了案件侦查报道的严肃庄重风格,对案件侦查传播出现了娱乐化倾向。

2002年11月1日,国务院《关于取消第一批行政审批项目的决定》,即:取消了公安机关对娱乐服务场所的审核、审批,但一些基层公安机关对娱乐场所的管理观念、管理措施和管理方式仍置后。为进一步贯彻落实国务院的《决定》和《娱乐场所管理条例》,适应新时期社会经济发展和治安管理工作的需要,公安机关要切实加强娱乐场所的治安监督管理,维护社会治安稳定,促进社会经济发展。     

论对赌博应严厉查禁而不能“抓大放小”

赌博活动在我国渐呈蔓延趋势,而且花样繁多,规模增大,严重扰乱了社会治安秩序,败坏了社会风气。在这种形势下,有人提出了“抓大放小”的所谓“禁赌新思维”。这种“禁赌新思维”实际上是对我国现行禁赌政策的曲解。要想有效遏制赌博活动发展蔓延势头,必须对群众性娱乐活动正面引导,对赌博活动严厉查禁。     

Agenda-Setting and Priming in Prime Time Television: Crime Dramas as Political Cues

The effects of agenda-setting and priming are well established in regard to the news media. Considerably less attention has been paid to these phenomena in entertainment media, in spite of the fact that entertainment media enjoy larger audiences than do news media and often address political topics. This article argues that the psychological mechanism hypothesized to lead to agenda-setting and priming effectsthat is, changes in construct accessibilityapplies as equally to entertainment media as it does to news media. Moreover, we contend that the frequency, consistency, and duration of entertainment media treatments of political issues encourage chronic accessibility of those issues. We test these hypotheses looking at television crime dramas as a source of political information. Using data from two controlled laboratory experiments and the 1995 National Election Study Pilot Study, we demonstrate that viewing crime dramas significantly increases concerns about crime and that these concerns significantly affect viewers' opinions of the president. The NES Pilot Study data suggest that these effects are restricted to frequent viewers of crime dramas, supporting a chronic accessibility model of agenda-setting and priming. These findings extend our growing understanding of how non-news sources of political information contribute to the construction of political attitudes.

A comparative analysis of infractions in Texas alcohol establishments and adult entertainment clubs

A crucial yet disputed element in the attempt to regulate sexually oriented businesses has been the negative secondary effects these firms have on nearby businesses and residential communities. This paper addresses a new dimension of the negative effects from such businesses by examining data on administrative and criminal infractions inside a large number of sexually oriented businesses and a comparable group of alcohol establishments. We compare administrative and criminal violations data from the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission for all adult entertainment clubs (AECs) serving alcohol against a randomly selected sample of bars in the State of Texas. We find that there are important differences between the clubs and bars in 10 of the 23 t-test comparisons. What is more, even though alcohol-related infractions are the most common type of infraction for both AECs and for bars, the number of sex- and drug-related offenses was consistently more prevalent for sexually oriented businesses than for bars. In contrast, the bars have much higher numbers of criminal violations, primarily because of the higher incidence of infractions involving minors. This paper contributes to the literature on negative primary and secondary effects of sexually oriented businesses.     

Diving into the Wreck: Aesthetic Spectatorship at the Fin-de-siècle

Abstract

The popularity of films like Titanic betokens a massive shift in the nature of aesthetic spectatorship in our time. The contemplative, distanced viewer who is able to judge from afar the spectacle before him or her, has been replaced by a more proximate, involved "kinaesthetic" subject whose body is stimulated as much as his or her eye. This is evident not only in mass culture with amusement thrill rides and the return of what has been called the "cinema of attractions"; this new spectator can also be discerned in avant-garde culture, as shown by the Sensation exhibition of Young British Artists which caused such a stir in London and New York. This spectator is especially attracted to simulacral scenes of destruction and catastrophe, in which he or she is virtually immersed. If aesthetic judgement is to be a model for its political counterpart, as has been argued by theorists like Lyotard and Arendt, it cannot do so on the basis of this aesthetics of violent immersion.
