Predicting batterer recidivism five years after community intervention

The purpose of this study was to examine batterer recidivism rates 5 years after community intervention and to determine differences that discriminate between recidivists and nonrecidivists. Of the 100 men included in the sample, 40% were identified as recidivists because they were either convicted of domestic assault, the subject of an order for protection, or a police suspect for domestic assault. A discriminant analysis was conducted using a variety of background and intervention variables. Five variables were selected that significantly discriminated between recidivists and nonrecidivists and correctly classified 60.6% of the cases. Men who had been abusive for a shorter duration prior to the program, court ordered to have a chemical dependency evaluation, in chemical dependency treatment, abused as children, and previously convicted for nonassault crimes were more likely to be recidivists. Variables relating to intervention did not significantly predict recidivism. Implications for community intervention programs are discussed.

单亲是指单独与子女生活的一方父母.在中国,离异和丧偶是成为单亲的主要原因.如何客观地评价这一群体,帮助其更好地生存与发展是亟待解决的重要课题.因此,我们依据定性研究中的行动研究方法,探讨了单亲的心理困扰、心理发展规律,以及心理社会干预的有效途径与方法.研究的基本成果有4方面:1.单亲的心理发展历程分为婚姻危机、成为单亲、单亲生活、个人成长、走向再婚5个阶段;2.单亲心理成长与发展有3个重要理念:单亲是一个正常的社会角色、单亲生活可以是快乐的、成为单亲是自我成长发展的一个契机;3.形成了分阶段及多样性的心理干预模式;4.通过心理社会干预,单亲在自我探索、积极人生态度的建立、健康人格的塑造以及社会支持系统的建立等方面有了很大提高,并进一步促成了自身的成长与发展.研究结果表明,单亲需要社会给予更多的关注.     

大学生自杀问题研究综述

近年来，学术界非常关注对大学生自杀问题的研究。学者们从大学生自杀现状、自杀原因及预防与干预机制等方面进行了系统研究和分析。从总体来看，现有的研究缺少实证研究、对影响大学生自杀的各因素之间相互怍用及影响机制的研究不足、缺乏高校学生工作与大学生自杀关系的研究等。

HALT: early prevention and repression; recent developments and research

In this article an account is given of the Halt working method in the Netherlands, which is used by 63 Halt Bureaus and is directed at combating and preventing juvenile delinquency. This working method has been successful. Recent developments and experiments directed at further extending the effects of the Halt approach and executing an even earlier reaction to criminal behaviour are considered, and the results of recent research are discussed. Finally, the pros and cons of this method of early reaction are revealed, the conclusion being that the advantages and positive effects are great, and any possible disadvantages can be further offset.     

To Act or Wait: A Two-Stage View of Ripeness

This paper examines different conceptions of ripeness to evaluate their usefulness to war termination theory and practice. After examining the objective and subjective elements of ripeness, it suggests that the first definitions can be linked by using bureaucratic decisionmaking models and "two-table" negotiating models. This article concludes that ripeness can be enhanced through a systematic combination of its objective and subjective elements within a framework of possible policy options and intervention actions. It stresses that collaboration and communication between Track I and Track II intervenors is the key to transforming ripeness from a condition to a goal.
