Chapter 4. Concepts of Mental Health and Mental Illness in Older Hispanics

Abstract

The effect of cultural context in symptom expression and interpretation among older Hispanics, and how they experience psychological distress are not well-understood. We use the illness representation model to learn about older Puerto Ricans' and Dominicans' conceptions and causes of positive mental health, the causes of emotional problems, the conceptions and causes of depression and anxiety, the distinction between depression and anxiety, and the relationship between age and depression. Greater understanding of the meaning of symptoms and syndromes of depression and anxiety might help to define more culturally-sensitive mental health treatments and service delivery systems.     

新《消防法》发展问题研究

消防安全工作直接关系对人民生命财产的保护,关系到经济建设和改革发展。随着我国社会经济持续高速发展,消防工作面临严峻考验。我国2009年修订《消防法》,着眼于加大火灾隐患整治力度和有效扑救火灾,加重对违法单位的惩处力度,增强了《消防法》的可执行性、可操作性。但在安全隐患预防、消防执法、违法惩处等方面的可执行性仍亟待加强和完善。为了有效保障人民生命财产安全,有必要关注新《消防法》发展中存在的问题,着力完善相关立法。     

结果加重犯的认定思路

结果加重犯的基本犯行为与加重结果之间的直接性是认定结果加重犯的客观层面的关键,对于加重结果分层判断客观预见可能与主观预见可能是主观客观化的思路兑现。行为共同说不仅适用于共同正犯,同样可以适用于狭义共犯。行为共同说回归单独犯本质探讨共犯问题为解决结果加重犯的共犯问题提供了新的思路。共同正犯、教唆犯、帮助犯对于各自故意视野中的共同行为的具体认识,直接决定是否承担加重结果的责任。     

Nanotechnology . . . What Is It Good For? (Absolutely Everything): A Problem Definition Approach

Problem definition studies focus on the ways in which problems are characterized in the political domain, and how they can be used strategically to limit or expand policy participation. Nanotechnology entrepreneurs are vying for resources in the political domain while strategically linking their nano‐solution to multiple and ambiguous problems. This article considers the evolution of nanotechnology as a solution, and the linked problems from a problem definition perspective. We consider how nanotechnology has been defined over time, in the scientific community and in the media, through development of a database of problem and solution definitional change. We find that, over time, advocates have defined the solution from a more narrow perspective while maintaining the overall ambiguity of the problem set. We suggest that the problem definition perspective is a viable framework for understanding the fluid and complex dynamics of science and technology issues and offer several suggestions for further research.     

Correlative Factors for Organic Psychotic Symptoms in Patients Following Traumatic Brain Injury

Objective To investigate the correlative factors for organic psychotic symptoms following trau matic brain injury （TBI）. Methods In the current study, 391 subjects who had undergone forensic iden tification of the organic mental disorders due to TBI were included, both the demographic and posttrau matic information collected. The relevant data were statistically analyzed in those confirmed as organic psychotic syndrome according to Chinese Classification of Mental Disorders 3rd version （CCMD3）. Re suits Fiftytwo subjects （13.3%） were identified as organic psychotic symptoms. The chisquare test showed that the detectable organic psychotic symptoms were associated with the marriage status, damage nature, injury severity and treatment, and the multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed good fitness of treatment and injury severity with the regression model （OR=0.044, 95% CI： 0.0170.114; OR=2.145, 95% CI： 1.201-3.832, respectively）. Conclusion The risks of organic psychotic symptoms following TBI can be involved in the alternative of craniotomy for the cases with trauma and moderate brain injury.

Violent behavior and the factors associated with the decision to report it: a retrospective study

An ample volume of research evidence supports the conclusion that severe mental illness is correlated with violent behavior. While episodes of violent behavior are included in medical notes, not all episodes of violent behavior are officially reported to the police, even when they are actual crimes. We conducted a retrospective study on the already existing clinical files of four public psychiatric outpatient facilities, based in Southern Italy, in order to assess how many cases of violent behavior are actually reported and which variables are more frequently connected with the decision to report. The data shows that the episodes known to the health services, in number and seriousness, vastly outnumber the complaints actually made towards their patients.

试论在经济犯罪案件侦查中赃款赃物认定和追缴的法律问题

赃款赃物不能作为一个固定不变的概念来理解，在追缴赃款赃物的过程中，除追查和收缴外，还涉及赃款赃物及其他财产的控制与处理。侦查阶段，对犯罪嫌疑人的个人财产可先行保全，在赃款赃物流转时，应遵守民法有关原则。
