Impressions and marks are expected components of any crime scene.There is nothing more disappointing for fingerprint experts than finding glove marks at a crime scene.The forensic expert’s primary task in such cases is to compare the characteristic features of glove impressions with the characteristics of a suspect.The aim of the present study was to determine whether additional information could be obtained from glove prints.Specifically,whether they could be used to help to predict the sex and stature of a suspect was investigated,as was the potential for ascertaining additional information in cases where such prints were recovered from diverse objects with different diameters.Male and female participants wore latex gloves,and after ink was applied to the gloves they grasped objects of different diameters(2,4,6 and 8 cm).Impressions of gloved flat hands were also obtained.Phalangeal and finger lengths were measured digitally via software.Sex and stature were successfully estimated based on impressions derived from gloved flat hands and from prints on various grasped objects.A regression equation was developed for stature prediction,and a discriminant equation was developed for sex prediction.  相似文献

The transition from 2D imaging to 3D scanning in the discipline of firearms and toolmark analysis is likely to provide examiners an unprecedented view of microscopic surface topography. The digital examination of measured 3D surface topographies has been referred to as virtual microscopy (VM). The approach offers several potential advantages over traditional comparison microscopy. Like any new analytic method, VM must be validated prior to its use in a crime laboratory. This paper describes one of the first validation studies of virtual microscopy. Fifty‐six participants at fifteen laboratories used virtual microscopic tools to complete two proficiency‐style tests for cartridge case identification. All participating trained examiners correctly reported 100% of the identifications (known matches) while reporting no false positives. The VM tools also allowed examiners to annotate compared surfaces. These annotations provide insight into the types of marked utilized in comparative analysis. Overall, the results of the study demonstrate that trained examiners can successfully use virtual microscopy to conduct firearms toolmark examination and support the use of the technology in the crime laboratory.  相似文献

This study presents a wavelet analysis of resultant velocity features belonging to genuine and forged groups of signature sample. Signatures of individuals were initially classified based on visual human perceptions of their relative sizes, complexities, and legibilities of the genuine counterparts. Then, the resultant velocity was extracted and modeled through wavelet analysis from each sample. The wavelet signal was decomposed into several layers based on maximum overlap discrete wavelet transform (MODWT). Next, the zero crossing rate features were calculated from all the high wavelet sub‐bands. A total of seven hypotheses were then tested using a two‐way ANOVA testing methodology. Of these, four hypotheses were conducted to test for significance differences between distributions. In addition, three hypotheses were run to provide test for interaction between two factors of signature authentication versus perceived classification. The results demonstrated that both feature distributions belonging to genuine and forged groups of samples cannot be distinguished by themselves. Instead, they were significantly different under the influence of two other inherent factors, namely perceived size and legibility. Such new findings are useful information particularly in providing bases for forensic justifications in establishing the authenticity of handwritten signature specimens.  相似文献

The analysis of questioned documents printed with monochromatic toner has been a great challenge to document examiners. Banding artifacts, which are often perceived in the outputs of laser printers, could be a solution to the identification of printers. In this study, sources other than the gear transmission errors were discovered for some primary banding frequency components. By detecting the angular velocity variation of photosensitive drums and other rotating parts of the tested printers and comparing them with the banding signals extracted from the printouts, the authors located the sources of banding frequency components. It was shown that the sources of some primary and persistent banding signals, which were previously unknown, were traced to the periodic velocity variations of the motors or the timing belts. As inherent signatures, banding artifacts could be promising features for discriminating documents printed by individual laser printers.  相似文献

我国证券市场正处于由计划模式向市场模式的转轨过程中,发行制正处于由审核制向注册制过渡阶段。我国保荐制度所处的这种宏观环境,决定了其当前的目标定位与运行的客观状态。现阶段的保荐制度既受到发行制度转轨进程的制约,又能有效推动这一转轨进程。在发行制度的转轨过程中,为了最大限度地发挥保荐制度的功效,推动制度设定目标的实现,除需转变监管理念和改革发行审核方式等制度外,还需完善保荐制度本身的各项具体制度,包括强化保荐人市场监管,平衡保荐人权利、义务与责任,加强行业自律监管等。  相似文献
