AbstractThere is an increasing growth in access to the Internet among youth, gained largely through cell phones, computer laboratories on campuses, home connections, and connections on personal computers. Also, the availability of social software tools for webpage creation, blogging, and creating and sharing multimedia content has made content creation relatively accessible. But are the youth using these tools effectively? What are the levels of digital skills among this population? This study investigates digital skills among South African university students. Through a survey conducted at ten universities, and two skill experiments conducted at two universities, this study explores the pattern of perceived skills and actual skills, to examine current trends of digital skills among the students. The findings reveal that forms of Internet access, the cost of access, social stratification, and inequalities have implications for the patterns of digital skills, with content creation being a challenge for many youth. 相似文献

This article focuses on student opposition to the Portuguese Estado Novo regime, examining the links between the dynamics of mobilization and radicalization and the emergence of new political actors before the fall of the Salazar dictatorship on the one hand, and the revolutionary process which characterized the Portuguese transition on the other. The 25 April 1974 military coup d'état that overthrew the Estado Novo triggered what later came to be known as the ‘third wave’ of democratization; but the Portuguese transition was characterized by elements of rupture that were much more significant than those observed in the subsequent democratization processes of Spain and Greece. This rupture was a result of the form of regime change – a military coup d'état – and was sustained with the mass social mobilization that followed. While key studies have stressed that the political crisis after the fall of regime was the fundamental cause of this exceptional mobilization, the argument advanced in this article is that the pre-revolutionary cycle of protest also explains the particular characteristics of the Portuguese transition. 相似文献

Korea was named the world's most wired country in 2003 (Wired Magazine). Although technology is relatively new to Korea, the nation is often quick to adopt. This study examines the extent to which educational technology is being used in the English language classrooms throughout the Republic of Korea at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. This is effectuated through a survey of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers teaching at these different educational levels. The survey covers frequency of use of: (1) digital devises such as CD players; (2) offline computer software such as those for English lessons; (3) online computer offerings such as listening materials and writing laboratories; and (4) out-of-class teaching tools for creating materials and for recordkeeping. In addition, teachers are surveyed on technology used in blended learning where the technology is used outside of the classroom to supplement in-class learning, e.g., recording, video, video-making, presentation tools. The survey examines the ease of use of technology in the teacher's educational setting and the reasons for using so much or so little technology in teaching. Interviews of high-level and low-level technology users give deeper insight into the reasons for different levels of technology use by different teachers. The survey results have implications for educational institutions on equipment handling and personnel training as well as for curriculum planners of teacher training programs in terms of incorporating instruction in technology use into EFL programs. 相似文献

中国传统宗教对大学生产生了一定的影响,大学生群体中信仰中国传统宗教的比例比较高。对福建省高校930名大学生的问卷调查表明:当代大学生对传统文化具有比较高的认同;遭遇困境是促使大学生转向信仰宗教的主要动因;传统宗教对大学生的影响呈现出年龄趋小化趋势;大学生信仰传统宗教的程度并不深。新形势下加强对大学生宗教信仰的引导,对于促进高校思想政治教育工作具有重要意义。 相似文献

通过对江苏省连云港地区大学生村官发展现状的实地调研,大学生村官的价值取向多元化,跳板意愿浓厚,所从事的工作内容不明确,工作重心偏离农村。从各地对大学生村官计划的落实情况看,各县之间呈现出不平衡性,且同一县内各镇之间也不平衡,大学生村官生活压力大、岗位流动频繁。对此,应从宣传工作、领导重视、加强培训、基础保障等方面入手进一步做好大学生村官发展工作。 相似文献

Understanding the factors that predict sense of community (SOC) among college students has important implications for higher education policy and practice. The present study determined whether perceptions of inclusion and religious pluralism across 2,199 university students' (1,442 women, 757 men; M age = 23.42, SD =7.84) at two Catholic universities predicted levels of school sense of community (SSOC). As expected, results indicated that perceptions of both inclusion and religious pluralism significantly predicted SSOC. However, mixed results were found regarding the interaction of university setting with inclusion and religious pluralism. Limitations and future directions for research are discussed. 相似文献

Abstract Schools across the nation have increasingly coordinated crisis intervention programs to minimize the impact felt by students as the result of a crisis, such as national events and school violence. Through the development of response plans and crisis teams, as well as the instrumental work of school counselors in promoting intervention plans and prevention programs, school systems have taken steps toward assisting students in recovery from crises. Theories of crisis intervention emerge from direct practice; however, minimal research has been conducted to examine how schools plan to respond to crises versus their actual response. This research investigated what high schools in one Massachusetts county have learned from actual response to crises. The study was conducted via written surveys of administrators and qualitative interviews with school counselors. 相似文献
