Hedonism and Ethical Crisis:A Study on Edward Albee‘s Everything in the Garden

Edward Albee’s Everything in the Garden is an ethical tragedy caused by hedonism. Both the hero and heroine lost their rationality for the sake of pursuing the satisfaction of desire, who finally committed the fearful ethical crime, murder, under the control of animal factor. Through the play, the playwright deliberately emphasizes the process of how a happy family moves towards abyss step by step due to the domination of material desire. The destruction of the family means that the “fun morality”, which represents the irrational will, finally defeats the “goodness morality”, which represents the rational will. This paper uses ethical literary criticism as the study method, through analyzing the ethical issues in the play, such as characters’ rational loss, moral turpitude, and lack of ethics, intending to seek the ethical prospect of Albee: by writing characters’ pursuit of extreme “fun morality” and the serious result brought by it, Albee attempts to arouse people’s yearning for “goodness morality”.     

A declining or stable image? An assessment of the United States' soft power in Africa

While the concept of soft power was coined by US scholar Joseph Nye in the early 1990s, the scholarly analysis of the US soft power in Africa remains scarce. This article seeks to engage with the question of soft power arising from US policies, political values and cultural exports in Africa. It employs both primary and secondary data, and focuses on the soft power impact of AGOA and PEPFAR on African perspectives on the US, as well as the impact of US popular culture, brands and educational exchange. The article found that, despite surveys pointing to increasing anti-US sentiments globally in the 21^st century, Washington still wields significant soft power in Africa.     

State urban enterprise zones: origin,policy context,and administrative constraints

This article examines the origins of state enterprise zone policies. Further, the range of state enterprise zones are reviewed, drawing out patterns and generalizations of implementing this type of revitalization policy. As part of this analysis President Reagan urban policy is analyzed as to its effect on state programs. Lastly, the article analyzes three important obstacles - labor, incentives, and politics - that state and local administrators must negotiate to successfully implement the enterprise zone policy.

国有企业中高层管理者政治品德结构实证研究

本研究以130名管理者为样本,结合定性和定量研究方法,探讨了国有企业中高层管理者政治品德的结构。研究发现国有企业中高层管理者政治品德主要包括民主、忠诚、有作为、廉洁守法等四个维度。中高层管理者的政治品德结构对领导绩效有正向显著影响,其政治品德如何是影响中高层管理者业绩的重要因素。中高层管理者的政治品德需要重点培养提高。

英美国家关于沉默权的争论并没有完全否定沉默权的意思 ,而只是对沉默权的具体规则有不同意见。沉默权是一项有充分道德基础的个人权利 ,它既有重要的诉讼价值 ,又可能需要付出一定的代价 ,但一些国家出于保护公共利益的需要对它进行的限制均附带有严格的条件 ,沉默权的基本精神并没有受到损害。坚持和发展沉默权制度 ,仍然是当今世界刑事司法领域的一种基本趋势。     

What is ethically appropriate in Negotiations: An empirical examination of bargaining tactics

Negotiation is an interesting context in which to study ethical judgment. Effective negotiators cannot be completely candid about their preferences, yet some honesty is required for parties to effectively agree. Is there general agreement among negotiators as to which tactics are ethically appropriate and inappropriate? This paper reports analyses of the ratings of 18 marginally ethical tactics by a sample of 320 respondents. Tactic ratings suggest generally strong consensus on those tactics that are appropriate and inappropriate; factor analyses of these ratings suggest tactic groupings that offer partial support for earlier conceptual models. A research agenda is also proposed.

刑事和解为近年来我国实践部门探索的解决刑事案件的新途径。刑事和解在我国的适用,具有正当性基础,具体表现在:构建和谐社会理论和宽严相济为刑事和解正当性提供了理论依据和政策基础,刑事和解有助于和谐社会的构建,有利于贯彻宽严相济刑事司法政策;刑事和解是我国司法现实的需要,是实现利益兼得、有效化解矛盾、解决司法资源紧缺问题的重要途径,也是联合国所提倡的,各国通行的解决刑事纠纷的方式之一;刑事和解与传统刑事司法理论并不相悖,体现了解决刑事案件方式的多元化和价值追求的多元化。
