Migrant workers and migrant entrepreneurs: changing established/outsider relations across society and space?

Drawing on Elias and Scotson's theory of established/outsider relations, in this paper we argue that migrants can be outsiders in one spatial context and established in another simultaneously. Our empirical focus is the situations and experiences of migrant workers from Central and Eastern Europe in four towns across Wales. While their position as outsiders is reinforced in the occupational spaces of meat-processing factories, outside the workplace a small but growing number of migrants are engaging in entrepreneurial activities that create new spaces of cultural diversity. We argue that this is having a wider affective impact on established/outsider relations.     

The Organisation of Hate

In this paper, it is argued that we need to understand the role of ‘hate’ in the organisation of bodies and spaces before we ask the question of the limits of ‘hate crime’ as a legal category. Rather than assuming hate is a psychological disposition - that it comes from within a psyche and then moves out to others - the paper suggests that hate works to align individual and collective bodies through the very intensity of its attachments. Such alignments are unstable precisely given the fact that hate does not reside in a subject, object or body; the instability of hate is what makes it so powerful in generating the effects that it does. Furthermore, although hate does not reside positively in a subject, body or sign, this does not mean that hate does have effects that are structural and mediated. This paper shows that hate becomes attached or ‘stuck’ to particular bodies, often through violence, force and harm. The paper dramatizes its arguments by a reflection on racism as hate crime, looking at the circulation of figures of hate in discourses of nationhood, from both extreme right wing and mainstream political parties. It also considers the part of what hate is doing can precisely be understood in terms of the affect it has on the bodies of those designated as the hated, an affective life that is crucial to the injustice of hate crime. Lessons from Experiences of Syrian Civil Society in Refugee Education of Turkey

Abstract

Turkey arranges for the protection of about 1.7 million Syrian refugee children on its territory. This article addresses initiatives and policies towards Syrian children in Turkey, considering characteristics and paradigm shift of refugee education in which hosting large refugee populations. It focuses on experiences of refugee community organizations (RCOs) working on the matter of education. Drawing on an exploratory case study with purposively selected Syrian RCOs in Istanbul, it particularly investigates to explore activities of “Temporary Education Centers” emerging in the emergency-based perspective in early times of Syrian refugee migration and radically disappearing in the integration-based interventions of the State. We will discuss handicaps of making schools refugee places linking with the socio-political conditions of post-displacement and possibilities of cultural orientation of the refugee agency.

论侦查的起点

在司法实践中,由于现行刑事诉讼法规定的立案条件过高,使得一些有线索的案件达不到立案的＂合法＂要求,这不仅限制了侦查主体在程序启动上的主动性,而且严重制约了对相当一部分犯罪的预防与打击。文章借鉴域外随机型侦查启动模式,提出了以＂犯罪线索＂为起点启动侦查的＂立线侦查＂模式,并对其必要性、可行性以及实施要旨进行了分析。     

西田哲学研究的当代意义

基于日本有哲学的前提,简要阐述了其代表西田哲学的形成及其体系,认为《善的研究》的出版奠定了西田哲学的基础,《场所》论文的发表,标志“西田哲学”的诞生。从“纯粹经验”的提出,到“场所逻辑”的形成,意味着西田的哲学思索已经触及哲学问题的根底并展开了逻辑化的建构,象征着西田哲学臻于成熟。纯粹经验→自觉→场所→辩证法的世界→绝对矛盾的自己同一的展开,构成了西田哲学的体系。当下,研究西田哲学就是要重新思考西田的问题意识及其所阐释的问题的现代意义。

食品药品安全的刑法规制正在形成以风险控制为中心的三维立体模式并可进一步加以完善。法益保护的前置化着重于一般预防,主要是抽象危险犯的设置;资格刑的配置着重于特殊预防,从立法完善的角度,可增设禁止从事一定职业的资格刑;对监管责任的强调和特别规定,则旨在从制度上堵塞漏洞,及时发现和查处相关违法犯罪行为,控制犯罪风险。
