Contextual Effects on Individual Voting Behavior: The Case of Taiwan

This study investigates the voting behavior of the Taiwanese electorate in two different levels of election by taking into account two aggregate-level effects, namely the political and economic contextual effects. Using both individual-level and aggregate-level data to study the 2008 legislative election and the 2012 presidential election in Taiwan, this paper not only confirms that the valence politics explanation outperforms other individual-level voting models in the legislative election and in other elections in Taiwan, but also demonstrates how the two contextual effects influence individual voting behavior. Specifically, the political contextual effect had influence on the individual electoral choice in both the 2008 legislative election and the 2012 presidential election, whereas economic contexts only affect voters’ decision when choosing a president. The multilevel analysis reveals that different individual-level voting models could provide partial explanation for voting behavior; however, the findings also show that we may overlook how contextual effects may affect the electoral choice.     

A fatal interaction: The role of the victim and function of aggression in intrafamilial homicide

Abstract

This study examines the interaction between the victim and offender during intrafamilial homicide. It is hypothesised that in order to understand the fatal consequences of the interaction, a psychological model must take into account both the role of the victim, as either a significant person or non-significant object, and the function of the aggression, as either instrumental or expressive. The combination of these two proposed facets gives rise to four hypothesised styles of intrafamilial homicide. This hypothesis was tested by analysing 191 intrafamilial homicide cases from the Chicago HITS database. Fifty two crime-scene actions were analysed using Smallest Space Analysis which revealed four distinct thematic clusters of variables. These themes corresponded to the hypothesised facets of victim role and function of aggression. Two related to expressive acts, (a) those murders where the offender kills multiple members of his family and subsequently takes his own life, and (b) cases where the victim is not treated as a significant person in the interaction but is simply used as a target for the offender's rage. The other two relate to instrumental acts, (c) those murders that are a culmination of years of abuse in which the offender sees the killing as the only means of escape, and (d) homicides where the victim is seen as an obstacle to the offender achieving a goal and is removed.

A further test of the validity of these four themes in describing distinct forms of interaction within intrafamilial homicide was to examine the proportion of cases which could be classified according to the framework. The hypothesis that each relationship would map onto just one of the interactional styles was tested by χ² which confirmed that such exclusive relationships existed at the p < .001 level of significance. This has theoretical as well as practical implications in that in using this method of classification it may be possible to infer which family member is responsible for killing their relative.

通过对2015年度“四刊”中公共政策类论文进行定量统计和定性分析,可以看到当前的公共政策研究以政策执行、政策网络、公民参与等为热点主题,以定性思辨分析、文献资料研究为主导方法,分布在理论与方法探讨、政策过程研究、工具与价值思考、创新与变迁研究、比较研究与借鉴等多个领域。结合目前的研究现状和实践背景,未来我国的公共政策研究应当向法治化、民主化、科学化、信息化、国际化的方向迈进,以创新理论研究成果,服务当前现实需要。     

Cell site analysis: Changes to networks with time

Cell service areas may change over time as sites or cells are adjusted, decommissioned or introduced, and there may have been changes between the time of calls and the analysis undertaken. The manner in which survey data is used as part of an analysis is of particular relevance as the data gathered may not reflect the state of the network at the time of calls and thus potentially mislead. Overlaying “historic” data (potentially generated before the calls) with “targeted” surveys (usually generated after the calls) may enable an assessment of possible network changes, or whether additional cells may also have served at a given location at a previous time. This paper outlines a case in which there was a significant time gap between the analysis of call data records and the date on which they were generated.

我国公共餐饮行业餐饮具卫生质量现状及问题分析

近年来,随着生活节奏的加快和生活水平的提高,外出就餐人数剧增,餐饮食品安全成为全民关注的焦点。政府监管部门每年大力度地开展一系列食品安全的整治行动,但大型、恶性食物中毒等事件仍时有发生,全国的食物中毒发生率居高不下。而餐饮具作为食品的＂隐形添加剂＂是食品的＂贴身衣物＂,其卫生质量安全直接关系到广大消费者的身体健康,民众对此的呼声也越来越高。目前,餐饮行业餐饮具卫生质量存在较多问题,亟待规范和整治。本文阐述餐饮具消毒的意义和重要性,归类了我国近几年餐饮具消毒模式的发展与演变,描述了餐饮行业餐饮具卫生质量现状并对存在的问题进行了分析。
