Abstract The dominant theoretical paradigm in contemporary South African media studies is one which encourages scholars to focus on questions of representation: on the content of media texts, on how accurately they portray the world, and on how individuals or groups react to those portrayals. While acknowledging the value of this orthodox approach, we argue that attention to the non-representational or material dimensions of mediated experience raises important new issues for the discipline, doing greater justice to the intimate material role the media play in the world and also serving as a first step towards reconceptualising human subjectivity in a way that goes beyond the traditional subject–object epistemology of modern humanism. We use an example from film melodrama to illustrate how the affective and phenomenological dimensions of the film-viewing experience can promote a positive pre-discursive engagement with (human) being – with what Deleuze characterises as ‘a life’. In this case we link affective engagement to the possibility of a regenerative politics that may begin to challenge and supplement the increasingly suspect modern political tropes of agency and identity. 相似文献

本文拟用政治学理论,以冷战时期的新加坡、印尼和缅甸等国为例,从移民政治认同、移民政治认同的建构入手,探讨移民政治认同对国家关系的影响。笔者认为,移民的政治认同,如同移民的文化认同一样,如果处理得不好,不能顺着时代的发展而有所变迁,不仅会给移民的生存和发展带来困难,而且也会引起国家之间的紧张,以致国家关系的破裂。 相似文献

Many studies have reported gaps between Latino and non-Latino adolescents in academic and political outcomes. The current
study presents possible explanations for such gaps, both at the individual and school level. Hierarchical linear modeling
is employed to examine data from 2,811 American ninth graders (approximately 14 years of age) who had participated in the
IEA Civic Education study. Analyses of large data bases enable the consideration of individual characteristics and experiences,
as well as the context of classrooms and schools. In comparison with non-Latino students, Latino adolescents report more positive
attitudes toward immigrants’ rights but have lower civic knowledge and expected civic participation. These differences were
apparent even when controlling for language, country of birth, and political discussions with parents. School characteristics
that explain a portion of this gap include open classroom climate and time devoted to study of political topics and democratic
ideals. Results are discussed within the framework of developmental assets and political socialization. Implications for educational
policy and ways to use large data sets are also discussed.

张爱玲与台湾文学史书写有着复杂而又密切的关系,半个世纪以来,诸种台湾文学史或书写,或缩写,或不写张爱玲,都有其内在的深层原因。作为"文学/文化"的"张爱玲符号",已经成为一种亟待思考的文学现象,本文通过对张爱玲文本在东亚的后殖民和冷战秩序构筑当中被台湾接受的一些脉络,以及在台湾本土意识高扬的背景下台湾新文学史要怎样处理张爱玲的考察,阐述文学制度介入到国族想象后,对作家阐释也出现了较大的位移。而且,也要阐释台湾"独派"人士在处理文化上的身份认同和政治上的身份认同之间的理论困境。 相似文献

This article considers whether children born through assisted human reproduction are entitled to information about their biological origins. It examines the issue both from a clinical perspective, citing social science research and the personal narratives of donor‐conceived children, and from a legal perspective, outlining the extent of a child's “right to know” in different jurisdictions. The article suggests that a uniform legal approach is needed that will recognize the right of all children to access details about their identity and conception, for the sake of their psychological well‐being. The article includes a fact scenario that considers the situation of a donor‐conceived child who has become the subject of a custody dispute, and who has not been told the circumstances of his conception. 相似文献
