澳大利亚中印移民结构数量对比研究

2011-2012年度,印度超越中国成为澳大利亚永久性移民最大来源国,2012-2013年度依旧保持最大来源国地位。本文以澳大利亚移民局、统计局官方最新资料为依据,从移民构成和数量方面对澳大利亚的中国和印度移民进行比较研究,发现亚洲移民已成为澳大利亚移民的主要来源,印度之所以超过中国成为澳大利亚永久性移民最大来源国主要是因为技术移民数量巨大,以此趋势发展下去的印度移民在未来几年极有可能超过中国成为继英国、新西兰之后的澳大利亚第三大移民群体。除技术移民流失和留学生流失,中国相比印度更加面临着商业创新投资移民的流失,加之中国国内的新增劳动力下降危机,中国调整移民政策已成为形势所必须。     

Negro labor in the western cattle industry, 1866–1900

The trade union movement in sub-Saharan Africa during the struggle against colonial rule in the 1950s has long commanded the attention of historians. Numerous books and articles have detailed the growing strength and critical role of trade unions in France's vast West African colonial federation, l'Afrique occidentale française (AOF). Far less is known about the fate of these trade unions in the nine newly independent countries that emerged from the demise of AOF. In the 15 years following independence, most autonomous trade unions in French-speaking West Africa were either marginalised or integrated into the political structures of ruling parties. With the exception of Burkina Faso, single national trade union federations controlled by ruling political parties existed everywhere in francophone West Africa by 1975. Whether capitalist, military or socialist, all political elites sought to create a trade unionism that would serve as a transmission belt for party control over the workforce, a type of unionism that was referred to as ‘participation responsable’. This article details the experience of Dahomey (now Benin), where independent trade unions struggled against responsible participation and continued to play a pivotal political role until 1975, when the state socialist regime of Mathieu Kérékou finally succeeded in imposing state-controlled trade unionism.     

The 1972 Memorandum to the United Nations and its repercussions: Émigré politics and Soviet Estonian dissent during the ‘era of stagnation’

The Estonian dissidents’ Memorandum to the United Nations, drafted as a call for national self-determination in 1972, set new standards for the émigré community’s campaigns. Although its political message was initially dismissed as utopian, the subsequently emerging cooperation between émigré and homeland activists via intricate courier networks significantly strengthened the authority of Estonian voices in the West. By the early 1980s, the political alliances across the Iron Curtain eventually bore fruit. The Memorandum’s core demands reappeared in political debates on Baltic issues on both sides of the Atlantic, foreshadowing the massive Western support for the Baltic cause during the Singing Revolutions.     

The phonology of Slavic loanwords in Lithuanian

Since 9/11, Washington has viewed the new Europe as a protégé of the United States, whose role is to repair the political bridge across the Atlantic. Whereas the lure of the United States has started to weaken in Central European countries, the Baltic states have remained the most trustful new Europeans from Washington's point of view. Nonetheless, the Balts have not felt comfortable with the new European label. They have seemingly begun to define themselves as something special and have aspired to a voice of their own. Instead of being merely protégés of the United States, the Balts are transforming themselves into intermediaries between Brussels and Washington.     

Citizenship rights in Malaysia: the experience of social and institutional discrimination among ethnic minorities

This article examines the experience of political, social and cultural rights for Malaysia's ethnic minorities. Using a survey method, our research finds that while Malaysia has made substantial economic progress, lack of attention to political, social and cultural rights for ethnic minorities in Malaysia has meant that ethnic minorities have become increasingly dissatisfied with their experience of citizenship. Experiences of institutional and social discrimination within Malaysia's ethnically differentiated model of citizenship are common. Such experiences can lead to low levels of confidence in Malaysia's national institutions and have the capacity to undermine the kind of political support that is necessary for good governance and national stability.     

The Experience of College Challenges Among Chinese Americans

Abstract

The current investigation examined the experience of college challenges in 112 American-born, 121 early immigrant, and 110 late immigrant Chinese American students. Due to differential acculturation, it was hypothesized that late immigrants would encounter the most difficulties and American-born Chinese the least. Using the 13-domain Inventory of College Challenges for Ethnic Minority Students, we found that late immigrants reported more problems than American-born Chinese on six academic, social, and general living domains and experienced more problems than early immigrants on two academic and social domains. Additionally, early immigrants fared worse than American-born Chinese on two social and general living domains. Service implications, particularly for late immigrants, are discussed.     

Chapter 7. Mental Health Intervention with Dominican Immigrants

Abstract

Dominicans are a significant force in the changing composition of Hispanic immigration in the United States, and all indications are that they will continue to be in the years to come. A framework has been applied in which Dominican culture, psychosocial strengths and risks, and treatment implications are explored in the context of how Dominicans appear to be similar to and different from other Hispanic groups in the U.S. Much more needs to be done in terms of elaborating this combination of homogeneity and heterogeneity. Mental health practitioners who are open to such inquiry, and to keeping an open mind regarding the possibilities of modifications in therapeutic techniques and modality choices, will find Dominicans to be a clinically responsive, and an enjoyable population to work with.     

俄罗斯中国新移民现状述评

苏联解体后,在中俄旅游和边贸的推动下,大量的中国移民涌入俄罗斯。他们在俄罗斯的农业、商业、建筑业等各个领域挥洒着汗水,不仅为自己积累着财富,更为俄罗斯的市场繁荣、经济振兴注入了巨大的活力。同时他们也为祖国的发展和增进中俄友谊做出了贡献。     

新疆部分地区动物西尼罗病毒感染的调查

为了解新疆部分地区动物西尼罗病毒(WNV)的流行状况,采用一步法实时定量逆转录聚合酶链反应(real-time RT-PCR)对采自新疆伊犁河谷地区以及巴音布鲁克草原的200份马血样、100份驴血样和100份犬血样外周血单核细胞中的WNV包膜蛋白(E)基因片段进行了检测。结果显示,被检血样中未发现WNV E基因片段,目前尚没有证据表明我国新疆部分地区的动物中存在WNV感染。提示,近期内该地区出现WNV流行的可能性小。
