Variability of bodily measures of normally dressed people using PhotoModeler Pro 5

Photogrammetry is used in forensic science to help identify perpetrators from crime scenes by way of surveillance video, but the reproducibility of manually locating hidden body-points such as the joints remains to be established. In this study, we quantified the inter- and intra-observer variability of bodily measures of clothed individuals in two different poses and examined whether body segment lengths could be used to distinguish between people of similar stature. Stature was reproduced within +/-1.5 cm in both the intra- and inter-observer study. Segment lengths were best reproduced when flexion in the joints was present in the intra-observer study, but only the length of the trunk could be used to distinguish between people of similar height. The reproducibility between the two poses was low. Other measures than stature should be used with caution and with the perpetrator and suspect in the same pose. Consistent guidelines for locating body-points should be developed.

Sexual abuse in Canadian university and college dating relationships: The contribution of male peer support

Using data from a Canadian national representative sample survey of male university and college students, this study tested three hypotheses from a theoretical model which attempts to explain the relationship between male peer group dynamics and sexual assault in dating relationships. Consistent with previous research conducted in the United States, the findings reported here show that male peer support is a significant predictor of sexual abuse in post-secondary school courtship. This article concludes with several suggestions for further research.     

Personality Disorder Symptoms in Women as a Result of Chronic Intimate Male Partner Violence

This study explores the personality disorder symptoms of women victims of intimate male partner violence (IPV), after controlling for the contribution of experiences of childhood abuse. Victims of both physical and psychological violence (n = 73) or psychological violence alone (n = 53) were compared with non-abused control women (n = 52). Information about sociodemographic characteristics, childhood abuse, and personality characteristics (MCMI-II) was obtained through face-to-face structured interviews. Women victims of IPV had higher scores than controls in schizoid, avoidant, self-defeating personality scales, as well as in the three pathological personality scales (schizotypal, borderline and paranoid). Both physical and psychological IPV were strongly associated with personality disorder symptomatology, regardless of the effects of childhood abuse. These findings underscore the need to screen for personality disorder symptoms in women victims of IPV when dealing with therapeutic interventions.

脑皮质挫伤组织的定量自动图象分析——存活时间与神经细胞及胶质细胞反应的关系

作者用Quantimet-720型自动图象分析仪,对10例伤后不同时间的脑皮质挫伤病理组织切片,作神经细胞及胶质细胞的定量测定。结果发现受伤区神经细胞的数目及体积分数,随伤后存活时间增加而沿对数曲线减少;胶质细胞数目和体积分数则随伤后存活时间延长而增加,线性关系明显。其中星形胶质细胞数目的增加更为显著,伤后4.5h死亡者,细胞数已开始增加。上述改变具有一定规律性。作者认为,脑挫伤死亡案例,可用本文报告的方法,推测伤后存活时间。此法在法医学文献中尚未见报告。     

舒乐安定在急性中毒家兔体内的分布

从生物检材中提取分离舒乐安定，采用薄层邑谱扫描法能准确定性、定量，适合于做微量毒物分析。对急性中毒家兔体内舒乐安定测定结果表明，血药浓度达峰值时，肾中含量显著高于其它脏器。因此，在疑为该药中毒时，采集尿进行分析是重要的。
