南方三年游击战争：中国革命史上悲壮而辉煌的篇章——南方三年游击战争的历史地位和作用

南方八省三年游击战争，在中国革命战争史上占有十分重要的地位。从1934年秋主力红军长征始至1937年10月改编为国民革命军新编第四军，南方八省红军游击队有力地掩护和配合了主力红军的战略行动，推动了中国革命战争由低潮进入高潮，由国内革命战争转入抗日民族解放战争，构建了中国革命的战略支点，为中国革命作出了重大贡献。     

井冈山斗争时期的红军后勤保障工作

井冈山斗争时期，毛泽东、朱德领导的中国工农红军在物质条件极度贫乏的条件下，还要面对敌人的经济封锁和残酷“围剿”，为解决红军后勤保障问题，红四军前委先后实施了多项措施：创办军械处，进行武器弹药生产和维修；实行土地革命，开展挑粮运动保障军粮供应；创办野战医院，医治伤病员；创办被服厂，保障军队衣被；开辟红色圩场，创办工农兵政府公卖处，促进商品贸易；创办红军印刷厂、造币厂以及公营商店、产品加工厂和商品交易场所等。红四军开展的这一系列后勤保障工作对解决红军的给养、巩固根据地的建设起到了积极作用。

红军时期,中国共产党的科学技术工作主要围绕军事和战争展开,具有务实性、长期性、灵活性、群众性的特点。由于面临着敌人残酷的军事围剿和疯狂的武装镇压,党和军队大部分时期在偏僻落后的农村活动,物质、技术、设备、人才、资金的制约使党十分注重医疗、电讯、军工三大技术的发展,因为这事关党和军队的后勤保障、通讯联络、情报侦察、物资补给。医疗、电讯、军工从而成为了中国共产党最先发展的科学技术。     

The Assyrians

This article deals with a largely unknown British officer of the Indian Army, who served between 1900 and 1928 in India, Tibet, Burma, north-western Persia and Waziristan. It focuses on his unpublished diary from the British military expedition to Tibet in 1903-04, to which the present author has gained access. The written legacy of Harvey-Kelly includes a report on north-western Persia, various correspondence and five photo albums.     

Ferrets in the Caribbean: Britain,Grenada and the Curious Case of the Armoured Cars

Abstract

When the Marxist-Leninist New Jewel Movement seized power in Grenada in March 1979 they set about securing and defending their ‘revolution’ against the threat of a countercoup organised by the deposed Prime Minister Eric Gairy. Military aid was quick to arrive from expected allies, namely Cuba and Guyana. Grenadian Prime Minister Maurice Bishop also requested arms from Britain and the United States. The People’s Revolutionary Government’s (PRG’s) ties to Cuba and evasiveness over election plans ruled out the US providing any support. Britain remained more open-minded about the PRG’s intentions. Using recently declassified British government documents, this article will examine London’s deliberations over supplying armoured cars to Grenada. It argues that Foreign and Commonwealth Office officials focused on the bigger picture of steering the PRG away from Cuba at the cost of considering how the sale of the armoured cars to the PRG would appear to a wider audience and that the PRG’s increasingly authoritarian behaviour ultimately vetoed the sale.     

Problems in applying counterterrorism to prevent terrorism: Two decades of violence in Northern Ireland reconsidered

The terrorism of 9/11 elicited a range of different reactions from around the world, including the sentiment that 9/11 was just deserts for America's presence abroad as an unwelcome, overweening world policeman. To help determine the prevalence of this perspective, the authors surveyed a sample of 335 well-educated, English speaking Sri Lankans. Most respondents (73%) thought that the United States brought the 9/11 attack on itself. Reasons for this view included the United States's unilateralism as the only superpower, its involvement in other countries' affairs for its own benefit, and its support for Jews in Israel at the expense of Muslims. Yet the sample's overwhelming sympathy for the U.S. after 9/11 (83%) and to a lesser extent, its anger (52%), as well as agreement regarding the need to punish those who planned and carried out the attack (91%) indicate ambivalence towards the U.S. Implications for how the U.S. should address anti-American attitudes are discussed.‐     

“Survival Mode”: Rebel Resilience and the Lord’s Resistance Army

ABSTRACT

To date, scholarly work on armed groups has seldom considered the notion of rebel resilience, or the factors that enable these groups to survive despite time, military pressure, and the myriad contingent events of civil war. In an effort to develop an explanatory framework for resilience as a distinct outcome of civil war and rebellion, this article examines the conditions under which the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) has persisted for nearly three decades. Based on fieldwork and original research, the article explains the LRA’s resilience in light of the group’s organizational structure and resource self-sufficiency, which have been well suited for the borderlands of East and Central Africa. The LRA is a key case of rebel resilience. It is important because it sheds light on the organizational foundations of armed groups, the relationship between resources and rebellion, and the broader study of conflict duration and termination. Understanding the sources of the LRA’s resilience can inform efforts to end such insurgencies.

1929年初至1931年秋，红军在毛泽东、朱德的领导下，从井冈山转战赣南、闽西，采取一系列符合实际的行之有效的方针政策，开辟农村革命根据地，发展壮大红军，为中央革命根据地的正式建立奠定了坚实的基础。中央革命根据地得以创建、巩固和发展的经验和做法对我们今天党和军队的建设仍有很多启示。     

江西地方红军与东固革命根据地

东固建立了赣西最早的地方革命武装和第二块赤色区域。江西红军独立第二、四团是创建东固革命根据地的重要支柱,对救援红四军做出了突出贡献。东固“秘密割据”的形式,丰富了毛泽东“工农武装割据”思想。独立二、四团的发展,扩大和巩固了以东固为中心的赣西赤色割据区域。
