The Forgotten Educator: Experiential Learning’s Internship Supervisor

Past studies have addressed the role of the university, student interns and, the faculty advisor; here, we attempt to fill in a missing piece of the experiential-learning process by examining the role and importance of the often overlooked internship supervisor. A survey was developed and distributed to 343 recent internship supervisors. Their responses show that many of these supervisors view internships as an important professional and educational experience. We argue here that the internship supervisor can maximize one’s effectiveness when operating within a strong college or university educational infrastructure facilitated by an engaged and competent faculty advisor. Our recommendations were discussed and confirmed by a focus group of experienced faculty advisors.     

Support for Palestinians among Jewish Americans: the importance of education and contact

The violent and protracted Israeli–Palestinian conflict continues, and Jewish Americans play a significant role in influencing related US foreign policy as well as in promoting positive interactions with Palestinians globally. Diaspora populations have played an important role in international peace processes and American Jews are actively involved in peace efforts for Palestinian human rights. Previous research indicates a relationship between views about Israel, knowing Palestinian narratives, and promoting peace processes. Thus, the attitudes and experiences that Jewish Americans have are important to understand and predicting their support for Palestinians. An online internet survey distributed to Jewish listservs (n = 173) measured variables of gender, age, political views, Jewish socialization, family and own attitudes about Israel, courses on the conflict, and having been to the West Bank. Results indicated younger, more liberal Jewish Americans who had taken courses and been to the West Bank predicted more support for Palestinians. Implications for future research and education as an important process in moving the peace process forward both through interpersonal relationships and public policy efforts are discussed.     

高校毕业生自主创业意愿影响因素的实证分析

本文基于辽宁省21所高校的1912份调查数据,运用Logistic回归和结构方程模型验证了个体因素、家庭因素和社会因素对高校毕业生自主创业意愿的影响。研究结果发现:个体因素中,个体的传记特征(性别、是否独生子女、户口所在地、是否本省生源、就读高校类型、所学专业)、创业环境认知和创业心态对高校毕业生的创业意愿有显著影响;家庭因素中,父亲职业、母亲受教育程度和家庭收入的影响显著;社会因素中,社会舆论导向和就业压力对高校毕业生自主创业意愿有正向影响,而高校创业引导与创业政策宣传的影响不显著。因而,建议从提高创业素质与能力、发展创业教育、改善创业环境、完善创业扶持政策、加强创业舆论宣传等方面提升高校毕业生的自主创业热情和创业成功率。

高等教育的困境与出路——以日本专门学校制度为核心的考察

20世纪70年代,在广义高等教育的指导思想影响下,日本专门学校制度产生了,它旨在满足人们对高等教育需求量的增加及社会对多种实用型人才的需要,它的产生完善了日本高等教育体系。本文论述了日本专门学校制度产生的历史背景,分析了专门学校制度在培养适应经济社会发展的应用型人才方面的突出作用,提出了我国应借鉴日本专门学校制度的成功经验,大力发展我国的高等职业技术教育。     

Understanding Sub-Saharan Africa’s Extreme Poverty Tragedy

Motivated by a recent World Bank report on achieving of Millennium Development Goals which shows that poverty has been declining in all regions of the world with the exception of Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), this study puts some empirical structure to theoretical and qualitative studies on the reconciliation of the Beijing model with the Washington Consensus. It tests the hypothesis that compared to middle-income countries, low-income countries would achieve more inclusive development by focusing on economic governance as opposed to political governance. The empirical evidence is based on interactive and noninteractive fixed effects regressions and 49 countries in SSA for the period 2000–2012. The findings confirm the investigated hypothesis. As the main policy implication, in order to address inclusive development challenges in the post-2015 development agenda in SSA, it would benefit low-income countries in the subregion to prioritize economic governance. Other theoretical and practical contributions are also discussed.

目前,地方性高校社会科学研究存在着重数量轻质量、重短期产出轻长效机制建设等偏向的"论文GDP增长模式"。这种模式严重制约着地方性高校社会科学理论创新、知识应用和高端人才的培养。将"论文GDP增长模式"转向"论文GDP发展模式",是一种必然趋势,既需要创新发展理念,也要探讨多种有效路径,以发挥地方性高校社会科学研究在我国经济、社会发展中的重要作用。

政府对“胡同”这一旅游资源实施特许经营,在全国尚无先例。北京市西城区政府率先对“什刹海胡同游”实施特许经营,是对现代管理方式的一次大胆尝试。本文从分析“什刹海胡同游”政府特许经营的必要性入手,阐明其实质是对公共资源的产权重组;通过对该项目实施步骤及相关法律问题的探讨,理顺各种法律关系;同时对政府特许经营的实施经验加以思考总结,意图为政府特许经营制度的完善提供参考。     

雅典奥运会安保的特点及对我国的启示

历届奥运会曾频频发生自然灾害和人为事故,由于这些流血事件的发生及严峻的国际安全形势,安全在奥运会的举办中显得越来越重要。建立奥运会安全保障体系,做好奥运会期间的安全防范工作,杜绝重大安全事故发生,是保证奥运会成功举办的首要条件。2004年雅典奥运会安保工作投资大、科技含量高,注重人员培训和国际合作,建立了立体式的安全网,积极发动公众参与奥运安保的维护,其安保工作的许多经验值得北京奥运借鉴。     

“1+1+3”人才培养模式研究

高职院校毕业生压力越来越大,究其原因最主要是人才培养与社会需求不相适应。高职院校构建和实践"1+1+3"人才培养模式,即一个导向:以就业为导向;一个引领:以大学生实践创新训练计划项目为引领;三个结合:学做结合、研创结合、校行企结合。将这种创新人才培养模式应用于高职院校应用型专业,必将推进高职院校专业发展并促进大学生就业。
