Regional Modernization in China: Project Concept and Organization

Abstract

During the May Fourth Culture Movement, Chen Duxiu from New Youth and Du Yaquan of Eastern Miscellany engaged in a series of heated exchanges in their common search for a solution to the Republican crisis and an understanding of World War I. Du argued that nation-states are founded on the cultural and civilizational orientation of its people, therefore the essence of war and the source of political conflict are functions of the thoughts of the people. This insight shifted the debate from the political to the cultural arena, and allowed the May Fourth intellectuals to examine the attributes of Eastern and Western civilizations as a way to counter the threats of Hongxian monarchism, China’s political and social fragmentation, as well as the inadequacies of Western nation-statehood. Du predicted that the future master of the twentieth century would be a scientific laborer with a cultural outlook derived from the mediation of the traditional Chinese and twentieth-century European civilizations.¹     

Adoption and Victorian culture

In 1888, evangelical, educator and feminist Constance Maynard adopted Effie Anthon, a six year old girl from a Salvation Army orphanage. Her mother, Rosabianca Fasulo was an unmarried, Italian woman recently “rescued” by the Salvation Army. Maynard anticipated that Effie would one day join her at her college but she met none of the expectations for her. She entered domestic service but fell ill with tuberculosis and died in a workhouse in 1915. This is one particular case history of an adoption when the practice was not yet formalized but small numbers began to adopt children unknown to them. It tentatively opens up the history of adoption in Victorian Britain. It also illuminates some broader questions about family ties, the meanings associated with motherhood, and how the body and character formation were understood.

朝鲜义勇队与台湾义勇队这两支抗战时期活跃在中国大地上的姊妹纵队,两者之间有着亲密的战友关系。台湾义勇队的成立,离不开朝鲜义勇队的指导和援助;两队相互声援,相互学习,共同进行反法西斯的宣传与斗争,在民族解放运动史上和中国抗战史上写下了光辉的一页。     

朱德为井冈山会师所作的历史性贡献

井冈山会师是我党我军历史上一桩重大事件,对井冈山革命根据地的建设、红四军的发展以及中央苏区的开辟都产生了积极而深远的影响。朱德为会师的实现做出了巨大贡献,主要表现在三个方面：一是通过＂赣南三整＂保存了南昌起义的火种,为实现井冈山会师创造了前提条件;二是成功发动了湘南暴动,壮大了革命队伍,为实现井冈山会师打下了现实基础;三是实现了由正规战向游击战的转变,为实现井冈山会师提供了战略战术基础。     

再谈遵义会议研究中的几个问题

在对遵义会议的回忆、研究中,虽然大部分史实已经清楚,基本问题已有结论,但是还有值得深入探讨之处。遵义会议是在中共中央与共产国际中断联系的情况下独立自主召开的;三人军事指挥小组是1935年3月17日,在红军三渡赤水后于川黔交界的陈福村成立的;选举张闻天代替博古任中共中央总书记是当时正确的选择;毛泽东在红军和中共中央领导地位的确立,是在遵义会议前后半年多的实践中逐步形成的。     

中国特色社会主义制度建设的伟大工程

党的十九届四中全会通过的《中共中央关于坚持和完善中国特色社会主义制度、推进国家治理体系和治理能力现代化若干重大问题的决定》,是一个关系党和国家长治久安的中国特色社会主义制度建设伟大工程,在党的历史上具有独特性和唯一性,具有里程碑意义。它构筑了党和国家长治久安制度建设的基本框架。党的领导制度体系建设是中国特色社会主义制度体系中最根本的制度建设。中国特色社会主义制度的"众星捧月"格局是相互衔接、相互联系的制度体系。目前的关键是加强干部队伍建设,不断提高领导干部的执政能力和治理水平。     

1929年10月红四军挺进东江行动新探

19 29年9月中共中央指示红四军挺进东江,在指导思想上是符合发展革命力量、创建和扩大红色区域要求的,是原则上的,不是具体的。红四军在挺进东江的具体过程中军事上失利,不能说是中共中央的指示不切合实际。虽然红四军挺进东江在军事上失利,但不能因此否定其作用。以历史发展的角度和更加宽广的视野来看,红四军挺进东江行动的作用表现在:推动了东江革命斗争的发展;扩大了党和红军的影响,促进了东江各级苏维埃政权的建立;帮助壮大了东江红军;密切了东江苏区与闽西、赣南苏区的关系,为此后中央苏区的发展与巩固起了重要作用;使红四军对本身存在的问题有了更深的认识,有利于此后古田会议的召开。红四军挺进东江行动,是得大于失的。
