Abstract

Some individuals can rise above disadvantaged environments by cognitively constructing better ones. One way to go beyond limited environments is by creating video futures. This article describes applications of video-based futures planning, in which teenagers find meaning in their current educational setting to prepare them for adulthood. We also describe the systematic training of school-based personnel to support the skills and positive attitudes of their students with carefully planned and edited videos that show future capability of the individual (self modeling and feedforward). We report diverse case studies to illustrate the methodologies, the range of applications, and typical outcomes. Follow-up of dissemination (especially the Video Futures Start-Up Kit) indicates successful replications, particularly in Kentucky and Aotearoa New Zealand.  相似文献

Computer vision technologies based on pattern recognition software will soon allow identifying human behaviour that deviates from a pre-defined normality. Such applications are foreseen, amongst others, to be used in public places with purposes of crime prevention, especially in the context of the fight against terrorism. This technology increases the level of automation of video surveillance, changing the main nature of surveillance. The balance of power between the citizen and the State is altered, calling for a new balancing of interests. The automation of risk detection moreover raises the issue of the protection against partially automated decision-making. This paper will deal with the challenges raised by proactive video surveillance technologies to the way how privacy and security have been balanced so far. Attention will moreover be brought to the new safeguards that should be devised to protect the citizens from increased scrutiny and growing automation of the decision-making process.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an algorithm for detecting frame deletion in HEVC-coded video in the compressed domain. Specifically, we focus on the frame type changes occurring upon frame deletion, which cause slight differences between the coding patterns in original and forged video. Then, we identify discriminating coding patterns for use as features, which are classified by machine learning classifiers. Furthermore, we propose video sequence integrity detection on a group-of-picture basis, which is computationally efficient and robust even when applied to static videos and videos with genuine scene changes. The experimental results show that the proposed technique can classify HEVC-coded videos more accurately than previous methods. In addition, the results demonstrate that the selected features work harmoniously in discrimination and that the learning-based classifiers are more robust and reliable than model-based classifiers.  相似文献

This article presents conceptual and empirical analyses of several of the “best practices” of learning and instruction, and demonstrates how violent video games use them effectively to motivate learners to persevere in acquiring and mastering a number of skills, to navigate through complex problems and changing environments, and to experiment with different identities until success is achieved. These educational principles allow for the generation of several testable hypotheses, two of which are tested with samples of 430 elementary school children (mean age 10 years), 607 young adolescents (mean age 14 years), and 1,441 older adolescents (mean age 19 years). Participants were surveyed about their video game habits and their aggressive cognitions and behaviors. The first hypothesis is based on the principle that curricula that teach the same underlying concepts across contexts should have the highest transfer. Therefore, students who play multiple violent video games should be more likely to learn aggressive cognitions and behaviors than those who play fewer. The second hypothesis is based on the principle that long-term learning is improved the more practice is distributed across time. Therefore, students who play violent video games more frequently across time should be more likely to learn aggressive cognitions and behaviors than those who play the same types of games for equivalent amounts of time but less frequently. Both hypotheses were supported. We conclude by describing what educators can learn from the successful instructional and curriculum design features of video games.

Gentile   is Assistant Professor of Psychology and Research Fellow at the Institute of Science and Society, Iowa State University; he is also director of research for the National Institute on Media and the Family. He received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota. His major research interests are focused on positive and negative effects of media on children and adults, including effects of advertising, television, video games, and media violence. He is the editor of the book Media Violence and Children: A Complete Guide for Parents and Professionals (2003: Praeger Press), part of the series Advances in Applied Developmental Psychology. He is also coauthor of Violent Video Game Effects on Children and Adolescents: Theory, Research, and Public Policy (2007; Oxford University Press). J. Ronald Gentile   is SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus of Educational Psychology, University at Buffalo, State University of New York. He received his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Pennsylvania State University. His major research interests include learning, memory, and instruction; mastery learning; and grading practices. 目的 基于视频透视吞咽功能研究(video fluoroscopic swallowing study, VFSS)评价针刺阿呛组穴联合康复训练治疗脑卒中后吞咽障碍的疗效。方法 将50例脑卒中后吞咽功能障碍的患者,随机分为对照组和治疗组,每组25例。对照组仅采用康复训练,治疗组采用针刺阿呛组穴联合康复训练,比较两组患者治疗前及治疗30 d后VFSS评分及功能性经口摄食量表(functional oral intake scale, FOIS)评分。结果 两组治疗后FOIS评分均较治疗前升高,差异均有统计学意义(P<0.05),治疗组FOIS评分升高值显著大于对照组(P<0.05)。与治疗前比较,两组治疗后吞食稀钡、浓钡、糊钡、包钡的VFSS评分均显著升高,差异均有统计学意义(P<0.05);且治疗组治疗后吞食稀钡、浓钡、糊钡的VFSS评分升高值显著大于对照组(P<0.05)。结论 针刺阿呛组穴联合康复训练可以在一定程度上改善脑卒中后吞咽障碍患者的吞咽功能。  相似文献
