The MISSING LINK: Exploring the Relationship Between Higher Education and Political Engagement 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Empirical political behavior research has consistently observed a robust and positive relationship between education and political engagement, but has failed to adequately explain why education is so important. Using data from the Baccalaureate and Beyond (B&B) Longitudinal Study, I test three competing hypotheses explaining the enduring link between higher education and political behavior. I find that a verbal SAT scores and a social science curriculum are related to future political engagement, suggesting that the content of higher education, especially a curriculum that develops language and civic skills, is influential in shaping participation in American democracy.

在目前的制度环境下,实施撤销村民组长这一强制性制度变迁的条件尚未具备。若勉强为之,则会导致制度变迁成本过高、基层治理弱化、村庄本土资源遭受破坏等问题。在农村社会发生根本性变迁之前,“大组长,小村部”的乡村治理模式更有利于农村发展。完善村组制度,健全村级组织,应该坚持村治改革与财力支持双管齐下、现代性与传统性互相交融、思想工作与激励机制相得益彰三大原则。 相似文献

A path model was tested in an ethnically diverse sample of 350 college students in which shyness, sociability, and parental
support for the college transition were related to loneliness and friendship quality. Furthermore, friendship quality and
loneliness were related to depression and anxiety. High levels of shyness, low levels of sociability, and low levels of parental
support were related to high levels of loneliness. High levels of parental support for the college transition were related
to more positive friendship quality. Multiple regression analyses suggested that loneliness, but not friendship quality, were
related to adolescents’ anxiety and depression. In addition, the interaction between shyness and sociability was significantly
related to anxiety for African-American adolescents such that adolescents who reported low levels of sociability in combination
with high levels of shyness reported the highest levels of anxiety. There was also a significant interaction between sociability
and parental support for African-American adolescents such that high levels of sociability in combination with low levels
of parental support for the college transition were related to high levels of anxiety. For White adolescents, only loneliness
was related to anxiety.

management of adolescents’ peer relationships, and peer influence on adolescents.

the development and maintenance of social anxiety.

Michelle Boswell is a graduate student at Northern Illinois University. She received her MS in clinical psychology from Northern

It is a truism that Northeast Asian states could benefit very much if they were to cooperate in the energy security realm. However, to many, especially economists, their behaviour to this common sense solution has been bewildering: there has been simply no progress towards this end and it still remains a puzzle, even to many energy specialists. This article attempts to answer a simple question: Why do the Northeast Asian states, namely China, Japan, Korea, and Russia, not cooperate? For its analysis, the author of the article relies on content analysis of recently released official governmental long-term energy policy and strategy documents of these states, and notes that cooperation for energy security reasons at the regional level is conspicuously absent, which possibly implies a lack of desire and willingness to do so amongst themselves. The article, however, deliberately omits from its study Korea, simply because no such long-term energy policy exists today. It attributes the major cause to the strong propensity by energy specialists to interchangeably use the concepts of ‘energy cooperation’ and ‘energy security’ in their analysis. 相似文献

网络化教育是一个系统化教育工程。当代大学生思想活跃,易于接受新观念。网络技术的普及,网络信息的传递,极大地影响着大学生的心理认知,网络信息中不健康的东西,严重地腐蚀着大学生的心理成长。高校的心理健康教育,存在着相当多的问题,远远不能满足大学生日益增长的实际需要。对大学生心理问题的网络化教育,关键是要在网上为大学生提供切合实际的、使他们喜闻乐见并易于接受的、丰富健康的心理学知识;在网上普及心理健康教育,是对课堂教育的丰富和补充,通过网上普及心理健康教育,使高校心理健康教育逐步普及走向完善。 相似文献
